H.S. Anderson Introduces the Vintage Re-issue Mad Cat Guitar

Most famous as the main guitar of Prince, who’s been using a Hohner-branded H.S. Anderson Mad Cat since the early ‘80s, original Mad Cats are a highly sought after, well-kept secret.

Nagano, Japan (October 19, 2012) – Japanese instruments played an important role in the history of modern pop music. Iconic items like the Tube screamer, the TR-808 and TB-303, the SG2000, the JEM, the recording 9000, the CP-70 etc. all helped shaping the sound of decades.

European distributor Amptec is proud to announce the return of a legendary Japanese instrument, the H.S. Anderson Mad Cat, after 30 years of absence. Most famous as the main guitar of Prince, who’s been using a Hohner-branded H.S. Anderson Mad Cat since the early ‘80s, original Mad Cats are a highly sought after, well-kept secret.

The upcoming Vintage Re-issue Mad Cat was developed with close attention to detail and it captures the feel and sound of the original guitars, without some of its issues. Tuning stability, reliability and noise were all improved, thanks to decades of experience in handcrafting guitars, almost 40 years after the original Mad Cat was released in 1973.

The H.S. Anderson Vintage Re-issue Mad Cat will be sold exclusively in Europe, in very small quantities. Both right-handed and left-handed models will be available.

I had an original one in the 70s-80s, foolishly modified it, then sold it. Best tone control of any guitar I've ever had or built. I've wanted one badly for 30 years. Don't think I'm up for $3K, when the originals were $600 LIST, but this is a classic, well worth the effort. I wonder if there are any plans to reintroduce the A-2 model, which was an original HS Anderson creation.

They were only made for a couple of years, Prince made them famous only a couple of years later. Stellar guitars, I have one from '79. Very rare and difficult to find (they sell for up to 6000$), so a re-issue is actually very good news imho. The electronics are like a hardtail strat, so it doesn't sound like a tele by the way. The dynamics are better than any other guitar I ever played.

Dan, try one out then get back to me, my mate had one years ago and I kept trying to buy it off him... Stonking guitar and I really don't like the Tele styling..

Does anyone understand the guitar industry? If all these reissue guitars weren't good enough to keep making back then why are they all worth making now?
