Beck's award kicks off the organization's Guitar Hall of Fame

Montreal, Canada (July 9, 2009) -- The Montreal Guitar Show (MGS) honored Jeff Beck Monday with the very first Montreal Guitar Show Tribute Award.

For the third edition of the show, organizers felt it important to create a Tribute Award to kick off their Guitar Hall of Fame that will spotlight a handful of the most outstanding guitarists. Organizers say Beck was a natural choice for the launching of this award. The trophy, made by luthier Michihiro Matsuda, was presented to him by Jacques-André Dupont, founder and general manager of the MGS, Monday July 6 at 2:00pm during a press conference.

HEY KIDDIES STOP IT.I HAPPEN TO PLAY ON THE LORD SUTCH ALBUM BACK IN 1970 WHEN I WAS A KID..WITH JEFF BECK AND JIMMY PAGE.YOU CAN'T COMPAIR JEFF TO ANYONE HE IS IN A LEAGUE BY HIMSELF.THE REASON THE BEATLES MUSIC LIVES ON FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION IS CAUSE THE WERE BRILLENT SONG WRITERS AND THERE MUSIC WILL REMAIN LONG AFTER THE SHREDDING HAS FALLEN BY THE WAY SIDE.YOU GO TO NASHVILLE THE FIRST THING THERE GOING TO ASK YOU... WERE ARE YOUR ORIGINAL SONGS????.CAUSE THERE ALREAGY GOT GUITAR PLAYERS THERE THAT WILL KICK YOUR BUTT TO THE CURB.KEITH RICHARDS CAN HARDLY MAKE ENDS MEET WHEN SOLOING BUT HE'S IN THE MOST SUCCESSFUL ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD...WHY CAUSE HE'S A SONG WRITER NOT A SHREDDER WITH DIARRHEA OF THE LEFT HAND.JEFF BECK HAS MORE SOUL AND FEEL IN ONE LITLE FINGER THEN MOST CATS HAVE IN THERE WHOLE BODY.SINCE WHEN IS PLAYING AT THE SPEED OF SOUND EQUATE TO MUSIC AND TALENT???.THERE IS NO BEST GUITARIST... IF YOU LIKE SOMEONE FINE.. TRYING TO COMPAIR ONE GUITARIST OVER THE OTHER IS IMMATURE AND STUPID.ONE DAY YOU WILL ALL SEE IT'S NOT HOW MUCH YOU PLAY BUT WHAT YOU PLAY THAT COUNTS..THATS WHAT MAKES JEFF BECK A GENIUS.THANKYOU.GUITARIST WRITER/DENIEL EDWARDS.7/18/09

The problem of those undereducated kids is they haven't even heard music! All they are listening to is their crappy i-Pods and shitty computer speakers, let alone the inferior formats like mp3 and similar! That's why they can't even tell the difference! Of course, not all but the majority are impotent in the taste department and it's not a surprise they can't recognize the real music and (more often than not) actually prefer cheap imitations! They love pizzas because they have never tasted salmon!

My goodness, but these kids really prove that entire generations are utterly under-educated. When you look at the caliber of musicians that play with Mr Beck today; when you listen to "Behind the Veil" and other compositions, or the sheer dynamics of his playing on a single stock Stratocaster straight into the Marshall - it's just extraordinary. For pity's sake, how can you not respect this musicians' musician - the compositions alone are exquisite and the playing breathtaking, the innovation second-to-none and the sounds unheard before him. Congratulations, Mr Beck - thank you for coming on up to five decades of pure pleasure.

If you grew up in the late '60s / early '70s like I did, you "get it". What Vai, Satriani, and other guitar titans from the '80s offer is a very cool dimension off what Jeff was already doing by the early '70s. They'll have their day off retrospective fame in due time, but today belongs to Jeff...because he deserves it. Best to you Jeff!!

Let's just pay tribute to Jeff Beck for the out-standing artist that everyone here truly knows he is. What Jeff represents does not have to be defended. He is beyond words. He is well respected by all real musicians and music lovers alike. Dan M. is just trying to piss everyone off. When you allow someone to piss you off, you give them power over you. Ignore Dan. He is not worth all the attention everyone here has gave him. We are bigger than that and we owe it to Jeff Beck to give him the great comments that we would have other wise done. Steve Vai is great also and does not deserve to be slaughtered by the masses because of Dan. Steve Vai did not make the comments. Now everyone move forward and Dan M. Just go away. We love Jeff Beck. Clean slate. Now everyone make fresh comments.

Oh yeah? You know what I think? (wait for it-)

LESS FILLING!!!!

So there, take that. Cripes. That's about where this comment section debate has gone. Can't we all just appreciate the various flavors that are out there? Oh wait, that would mean being well-versed in more than one style of something. It's much easier to fly the flag of your own narrow focus.
Carry on...

Apples & oranges guys!

The mattter of fact is both are great musicians and both deserve a great deal of respect.

There's something to be learned from both of them.

Thanks for all the great tunes Jeff, and keep them coming!
