Marshall Announces YJM100 Yngwie Malmsteen Signature Head

Th YJM100 is a 100-watt, valve head that was developed in close conjunction with the legendary Swedish six-string shredder, Yngwie Malmsteen.

Anaheim, CA (January 12, 2011) - Marshall Amplification is proud to present the Signature YJM100: a 100-watt, valve head that was developed in close conjunction with the legendary Swedish six-string shredder, Yngwie Malmsteen. The YJM offers the perfect balance of vintage tone and looks, alongside modern features which makes the amplifier the perfect players’ tool for “plug in and play” recording or live performance.

Malmsteen has been a Marshall devotee from the get-go so this collaboration comes as no surprise to his countless fans. “I can't say enough about my love for the sound, feel and look of the wall of Marshalls. Since I was 10 years old, I’ve insisted on having them behind me at all times,” the guitarist reveals. “I must have had every amp company in the world ask me to endorse them, over the years. To finally have my own signature Marshall is an honor and this amp is truly a master piece!” Based on the power and tone of the “Holy Grail” 1959 Plexi head, the YJM100 offers the ultimate Neo-Classical amp with the following cutting edge features:

- Footswitchable* Boost with controls for Volume and Gain on the rear panel.
- Footswitchable* Noise Gate with rear panel Threshold control.
- Footswitchable* studio quality Digital Reverb with rear panel Level control.
- Footswitchable* Series FX Loop
- Half power switch which takes the output power from 100W to 50W when engaged.
- Built-in, infinitely variable Attenuator control which can take the output stage from 100% to 0.01% and anywhere in-between, while retaining the all-important tone and feel of the all-valve power section. This means the output power can be reduced to a staggering low of 0.05 Watts when in 50W power mode.
- Valve Failure Circuitry: meaning that if one of the output valves develops a fault, a visual indicator on the rear of the amplifier shows which one is working incorrectly. This “roadie friendly feature” will save valuable time getting the amplifier back up and running again, should a valve failure occur.
- Self-biasing circuitry to ensure proper power valve operation each time valves are changed.

*NOTE: A four-way Footcontroller (PEDL-00046) comes supplied with the YJM100, facilitating switching of Booster, Gate, Reverb and FX Loop features. This Footcontroller has been designed using Marshall Amplification's patented STOMPWARE Technology, allowing the user to connect it to the amp using a standard 1/4" guitar cable.

How does Malmsteen sums up the YJM100? “Vintage look and sound, with incredible versatility and features. Remember you can't buy just one!”

The limited edition YJM100 will be launched at NAMM 2011. Quantity, Price and ETA, TBA

Seems really Funny and strange that Malmsteen is calling this his signature head Yngwie Malmsteen only used 50 watt Marshall heads. He never used a 100 watt head EVER! This amp has really nothing to do with Yngwie. Marshall put his name on an amp that Yngwie has never used in his career. Yes he uses these 100s now, but on all those early albums and tours, it was a straight Marshall 1973, 50 watt heads with a DOD overdrive pedal. That was the sound Yngwie is known for. Marshall should have just reissued the 50 watt big box 1973 heads that Yngwie liked. i know because i sold him 3 of the ones he had in the late 80s. The Malmsteen amp does have some interesting features though

50 / 100 w ? cover the bases for more sales , seems to have
some of the afd head features , guess we'll have to wait for those heads to sell out , before the features filter down to other product , and then there's satriani and his gates

Hey Steve O., Marshall probably thought they could cover a broader customer range by making it a 100 watt then with power reduction ability to be 50 watt and less and everything in between.....If they keep it in the $2K range or so like the AFD100 I`m interested. Then again I`m sure Marshall will make new amps for the rest of us with the new features of the AFD100 and YJM100 that aren`t limited editions.

Being a Malmsteen head, shouldn't it be bigger? (ducking)

Interesting. Since Yngwie has always been a 50-watt player it's surprising that the sig model is 100. Guess I'll have to hear it this weekend at the NAMM show. If anyone is a true ambassador for Marshall, Yngwie is definitely the guy.
