Million Dollar Mic Vault at Sweetwater HQ

Sweetwater's impressive microphone collection

Fort Wayne, IN (June 4, 2008) -- Demos, workshops and gear were the focus of GearFest 08 last weekend but we also got a chance to snoop around Sweetwater's facilities while we were in Ft. Wayne. Aside from the racquetball court, fitness center and arcade machines that made our cozy basement offices seem very sad, our interest was piqued by a glittering room under lockdown from the general public -- what Sweetwater calls the "Million Dollar Mic Vault."

Luckily, working for a magazine and dragging around a camera crew has its perks -- we were able to step inside and see Sweetwater's mic collection. Check it out:

Ha Ha Ha - Jokes on me, I thought I was going to see up close some really expensive mics and actually learn something. I have an SM57 already, thanks!

Yeah... that WAS pretty weak. Not even two minutes long and not even close to a million dollars of microphones. Probably not even $200k... Maybe the room cost a million to build. Now THAT I could easily believe...

Pretty weak. Not what I've come to expect from PG...

But, I guess it's no worse then that monthly 'recording' column from the Slickwater crew. Actually, it's about par.

They don't talk about everything you see in there, you morons. You guys must not know your mikes well enough -- what i see in there is big time stuff. What's the matter--don't know your stuff unless they spell it out for you? Oh, and 75% of the classic rock albums in your collection were recorded with 57's on the cabs. Just so you know, you idiots.

this is totally garbage. barely any quality mics in there, not one "great" mic.. and HARDLY a million dollars worth in that room. Its pretty bad when 30% of the video is showcasing an sm-57. Wheres the U-47's? C-12's? Elam 251's?
