Orange Launches The OPC Computer Amplifier Speaker

Premier Guitar

The OPC is a fully integrated computer with internal speaker and universal input jack, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, Windows 7, Intel chips and more.

Hetfordshire, UK (April 17, 2010) -- Orange's OPC is one of the most talked-about products to come out of Musikmesse. Orange gave us an early look at the computer at the show (see our video demo) and has now released details. Here's what Orange has to say about the OPC:

Orange Amplifiers, the British based pioneering force in guitar amplifiers, are proud to announce the launch of the revolutionary all-in-one computer amplifier speaker – The OPC.

The project has been several years in the making and as a pioneering force in guitar amplifiers, they have used their expertise in sound technology, engineering and electronics to build a new generation of computers that incorporate the best of both worlds: latest computer technology with integrated tools for the modern musician and music lovers.

The OPC is 100% designed and built in the UK. It is a fully integrated computer with internal speaker which delivers playing, recording, editing and computing capabilities to musicians and music aficionados. This is the first computer of its kind that you can connect yourself and your music to the digital world simply by plugging in your instrument.

The OPC will be leading the way with a number of firsts:

- The first computer of its kind to have a built-in high powered speaker which delivers superb full range hi-fi quality sounds as well as vintage guitar sounds.
- The first computer to have a universal input jack enabling users to plug in a multitude of musical instruments (guitar, keyboard etc ) and peripherals such as the iPod, MP3 players, microphones.
- A unique cooling system to ensure air goes in and exits only after cooling the internal computer

As a fully fledged computer it has 4GB DDR2 RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, Intel chips, Windows 7 x64 home premium, 8 x USB2.0 ports, is Wi-Fi enabled and has a graphics card with optional ATI 5670 512MB card for those who may want to play a few games while they put their guitars down. The first models will include modeling software incorporating computer samples of vintage and current Orange amps and cabinets as well as free branded recording software package. Once plugged in, you can then use the software included to create music or choose your guitar sound and then play, record and hear your guitar through the computer!

The OPC is compact, very portable, sexy and beautifully Orange! It takes many of its design cues from Orange’s, instantly recognisable, brightly coloured Orange Amplifiers and picture-frame cabinets and once again makes Orange stand out from the crowd.

The OPC is due to be released in June 2010 and the price will be announced shortly.

Hey sam r, Macs aren't just for fashion they were first used heavily in the education system back in the 80's but they are primarily used for Video and Audio and in the Print and Web design world. Speaking from the design side I know, they just run a lot faster than pc's, plus no viruses. When will this Amp get a virus, that will be interesting to see what happens, will the amp turn into a Crate or Carvin, lol.

I can only think what will happen when a Guitar is plugged in (with or without inline effects) and the volume is way up and no way is the internal computer components on a PC based system (or any system) unless its seperate from the amp (I guess that is why there is USB and Firewire Interfaces and or mixers in between a amp and a computer and its DAW wow, what would Jimi say? (I bet he would flame it! :) Its a Novelty that will be on clearance after 3 months (prove me wrong I hope)

haha was only time until Mac fanboys got onto this one! You have computers for gamers, computers for the office, computers for fashion (mac), only makes sense that computers for music was going to come out, music tech has been moving this way for a while... there's a lot of people out there getting into home recording but it's too hard to with all the crappy interfaces etc out there- If Orange gets it right with this i think they could be onto something massive! I'm getting one asap!

Dumb. It's like a Compaq luggable from the 80's with a big speaker instead of a green display. And Vista 64 is the only option which means it is incompattible with most DAW's.

I'll reserve my comments until I can hear more about the utility function of this concept. It has certainly kicked off interest and opinions. Noone can question that Orange makes good equipment.

It's novel and seems silly but it does have a couple of useful functions, rolled into one package. They do have another matching speaker cab for it, so if you couple it to that, it is a stereo monitor pair. Funky orange look, you'll either like that or not. It does have recording software and modeling software built-in. obviously the recording and instrument interface is way nicer than typical units. It has the basic look and feel of a combo amp. Most everyone needs to get a new computer every five years or so, so if it's time then this might appeal to a modern guitarist who is in need of a computer.

Now this is geeky. Why not have a computer you can plug a guitar into. I LOVE IT!!
