PRS Announces the Signature Limited Production Run

This once Private Stock Limited Edition is now available via a 400 piece core production run.

Stevensville, MD (January 19, 2012) – In early 2011, PRS Guitars offered a 100 piece run of its Signature model through the company’s exclusive Private Stock division. For 2012, this innovative model is being released as the Signature Limited, a 400 piece run of guitars built by PRS Guitars’ core production line. These beautiful multi-toned instruments will feature Artist Grade figured maple tops, mahogany backs and necks, Paua Heart bird inlays with Mother of Pearl outlines, and “sinker” mahogany necks. Most notably, the Signature Limited boasts an innovative, proprietary Signature/408 pickup system designed to extend the guitar’s tonal spectrum and musicality.

The proprietary Signature/408 treble and bass pickups are designed to narrow the field of the bass pickup to increase its focus, and to expand the field of the treble pickup to increase its tonal range (hence their asymmetric appearance). This pickup configuration stems back to Paul’s early pickup experimentation in the early 1980’s and provides stunning articulation and musical clarity. The Signature/408 electronics offer eight sounds via four pickup coils thanks to a simple but versatile switching system featuring mini toggle switches that provide numerous combinations of humbucking and (no volume loss!) singlecoil tones. This versatility and distinctiveness has garnered the Signature model PRS’s first official multi-artist endorsement from Howard Leese, Davy Knowles, Michael Ault, Tom Wheeler, and, of course, Paul Reed Smith.

“In many ways, the Signature model is the culmination of decades of experimentation,” said Paul Reed Smith. “This pickup system, and the very positive reception it has garnered, shows me that we have hit on something new and special.”

Sorry, not my style.. Proprietary pickups which purport to make a huge difference in sound. More like make it impossible to aftermarket unless you go thru PRS. I can get this level of quality from Carvin (which doesn't charge an arm and a leg, and is made by CNC machines, JUST LIKE PRS).... My opinionon PRS? Never found them to be worth it.

I bought one and I must say that it is the best sounding PRS guitar I have. I play on a regular basis and usually put emg's in my gig guitars but the signature limited is my go to guitar now and has the best tone and flexibility. But for that price I would of liked a rosewood neck.

I wish they put a blade switch, I'm not buying it Paul!, you better offer real working musicians models if you want me to buy one, instead of selling pitch.

Limited this. Limited that. It's all a marketing gimmick to sell more guitars. It won't make you play any better.

Working musician? Not too many of those can afford this guitar. These will end up in basements, bedrooms, and among the hundred other trophy guitars in the hoarders' vaults.

Finally, PRS does it again and realizes the need for more options and adds the coil split switches with NO VOLUME DROP. One of the only USA companies that still seem to care what the working musician needs from a guitar.
