PRS Guitars’ Exclusive Collection Series II Instruments by Private Stock Now Available

Collection Series II features a Collection DGT electric and McManus/Simpson Collection Angelus acoustic



Stevensville, MD (February 21, 2012) – Introduced in the fall of 2011, PRS Guitars’ Collection Series instruments are built in small batches by the company’s Private Stock department. Each Collection Series consists of one electric and one acoustic guitar made with the most exacting methods and the most prized components in the company’s possession, including pernambuco necks and fingerboards (which are exclusive to the Collection program). For the second installment in PRS Guitars’ exclusive Collection Series, Paul Reed Smith and the Private Stock team worked with David Grissom, Tony McManus, and Martin Simpson to design two exceptional instruments. Specifications for Collection Series II are as follows:

Collection Series II Electric: Collection DGT Specifications
One-piece quilted maple top with mahogany back, 22 fret 25” scale length pernambuco “DGT” neck with Honduran rosewood fingerboard and mammoth ivory Collection Celtic inlays, Honduran rosewood headstock veneer with mammoth ivory signature and “Collection” inlay, mammoth ivory purfling on the fingerboard, headstock veneer, and truss rod cover, DGT tuners with faux bone buttons, PRS tremolo, DGT pickups with scuffed gold covers and nickel screws, two volume controls (one for each pickup) with push/pull tone control and 3-way toggle pickup switch, and a custom Orange Glow finish with micro-bursts.

Collection Series II Acoustic: McManus/Simpson Collection Angelus Specifications
15.5” Angelus cutaway body, Proprietary hybrid X bracing, Sitka bearclaw spruce top with paua heart/black purfling, curly maple binding, and an ebony, paua heart, green select abalone, and 14k gold rosette, African blackwood back and sides with black/maple/black purfling, custom-carved pernambuco neck with African blackwood fingerboard and paua heart, green abalone, and 14k gold Collection Celtic inlays, ebony headstock veneer with mammoth ivory signature and “Collection” inlay, paua heart purfling on the fingerboard and veneer, ebony bridge  and bridge pins with mammoth ivory inlays, bone nut and saddle, Robson tuning pegs with ivoroid buttons, and PRS acoustic system.

I doubt I will ever see any of these guitars on stage with a cutting edge, relevant bands that are making cutting edge, relevant rock music. Guitars like these are going straight into the hands of collectors and dealers. These are wall decorations, sculptures, not instruments you are going to see on any stage being played by sweaty young musicians, old bluesmen, or folkies.
