PRS Unveils "Mira"

Premier Guitar

PRS Quality w/ new look, feel and sound

Stevensville, MD (October 1 , 2007) - PRS unveiled its newest guitar to 700 guitar enthusiasts at its recent "Experience PRS" open house. Paul Reed Smith and Michael Ault from the PRS Band unofficially unveiled the Mira onstage during an open house performance last Friday night.

Skillet guitarist Ben Kasica said, “I've been using the Mira over the last week of shows. I love it. It plays amazing, and the sound is perfect for the songs I use it on. It has that retro, classic rock vibe with the playability of a modern PRS guitar.”

Latin for “wonderful,” Mira is also the name of an unusually fast moving star located approximately 350 light years from earth. The PRS Mira model is a 24-fret guitar that features a 25” scale length, 10” radius, regular or wide-thin neck shape, locking tuning pegs, PRS non-adjustable stoptail, Abalone moon inlays or optional bird inlays. The guitar also features East Indian rosewood fingerboard, a solid mahogany body and neck, Mira treble and bass pickups, volume, tone, 3-way blade switch and mini toggle coil tap. The model is offered in range of colors including Vintage Cherry, Orange, Vintage Mahogany, Black, Wild Mint, Lilac, Seafoam Green, Powder Blue and Sandstorm.

PRS Director of R&D and Private Stock Joe Knaggs said, “The Mira is a good example of a great concerted effort between peers in marketing, R&D and production who have been working together for a long time. Our goal was to make a guitar that feels, looks and sounds different but keeps the quality, playability and unique PRS attributes. We wanted the Mira to have the feel of a flat top electric yet have the unique beauty of a carved guitar.”

Peter Wolf, PRS Director of Sales and Marketing added, “To me, the Mira is giving PRS a greater opportunity to appeal to a younger audience, indie bands and players who are looking for different things in a guitar. It has a strong vintage and retro vibe to it, and the Mira model has already been creating quite a bit of excitement within our work force and amongst the few artists we have been able to show it to.”

“The Mira is a new direction for PRS – flat body, pickguard, new pickups, 24-fret, retro-looking vintage style guitar,” said Paul Reed Smith, “but first and foremost, it is a wonderful sounding Maryland-built instrument.”

I see this guitar advertised as 5-3/4 lbs. and the top horn extends only to the 17th fret... guaranteed recipe for neck heavy. I suggest you check out this new strap I came up with for neck heavy instruments: http://www.headsupstrap.com

This is going on 6 months and now I am trying to match my black birds Mira to an amplifier. I have been playing through my computer and have let my strat and tele sit it out. My strat is very sweet sounding but the Mira matches the twang. The EpiLester was too microphonic and was used in trade for black birds. I love the play but it is neck heavy. What an awesum case. I am now using Dean Markly Heavy reisues and then thru a SansAmp to a Mu, then to ipod for the listen. I replaced the black selector knob.
