Premier Guitar has learned that Jeff Beck will receive the first-ever Montreal Guitar Show award on July 6, 2009 at the Montreal Guitar Show. The show is shaping up to be a great event for gearheads, with the addition of electric guitar exhibitors, a larger venue, and the event's proximity to the Montreal Jazz Festival (run by the same group). Premier Guitar will be on hand at the award ceremony and festival, so look for coverage of the event later this summer.

"And to keep it all within the classic sense of the superior uncompromising artist, he is a lot less rich than either of them". What does how rich you are have to do with anything? Jeff is not about commercialism. It is true, you either get it or you don't.

Jeff is superior in many ways. 12 bar blues or not. Jeff isn't better than Clapton or Page, he just evolves where his peers stop. You either get it or you don't.

"You can see him with other peers such as Clapton and Page and they almost seem sluggish like they don't practice much." And to keep it all within the classic sense of the superior uncompromising artist, he is a lot less rich than either of them. I've been a fan since the 60's, which might be why I'd love to hear him rip a few real 12-bar blues tunes every so often.

I think that if Hendrix had lived, he would be pushing boundaries also. So you can't count him.

For years we all heard about Hendrix, Clapton, Beck and Page. Jeff's the only one still pushing the boundaries. A joy to see him making those extraordinary tasteful sounds look so easy. I hope he never stops.

Stephen Crafts, you are correct. Beck is always growing. He is better today than ever before. You can see him with other peers such as Clapton and Page and they almost seem sluggish like they don't practice much. They just make cameo or retro performances, but Beck is a contender and he has a competitive edge. He stays on top of his game.

Yeah - he still has the passion and fire of an eighteen year old. Well deserved.

What sets Jeff apart from ALL other guitar players is not just his longevity (I first saw him live in 1968), but rather his incredible continuing growth as a guitarist. He is never content to be just a great player. He continually explores the potential of the instrument. In many ways, he reminds me a lot of Miles Davis... just when you think you know him, he changes. Watching him today is a joy. He projects his love of the guitar with every note he plays. Jeff, I can think of no guitarist who is more deserving of the award.

Jeff Beck is truly a Guitar God above most other Guitar Gods. His playing touches my soul.
