John Mayer and Blink 182 bassist Mark Hoppus' Twitter conversation about their recording setups

Ever wonder what rock stars do on Saturday nights at midnight? Apparently some compare their studio gear on Twitter. Luckily, we can sit by and watch. Here's the complete conversation from John Mayer and Blink 182 bassist Mark Hoppus:

markhoppus engineers! fave vocal chain? mine=neve 1081 -> 1176 f-series. fave vox compressor, 1176 vs EAR 660. now...GO!!!

johncmayer Per @markhoppus, I'm using a Fender Princeton and a Two-Rock Jm Signature amp. Signal path is Analysis plus cable to volume pedal to amps.
markhoppus @johncmayer bussed to a single gtr track or two separate tracks? neve bcm-10 perhaps?
johncmayer @markhoppus Shut your face. Not a BCM, but a SUPER rare version of it called an RM8. You have a BCM? We're taking direct as well, so 5 chs?
markhoppus@johncmayer come on, dude. you record direct as well? COMMIT TO A SOUND. no re-amp ever. you're better than that...
markhoppus@johncmayer ps. we have a neve 8014, 16 channel console. 60% of the time, it works every time...
johncmayer@markhoppus arrite. It's time for a Souldja (sic) Boy-style youtube recording gear-off, like lambos but with faders.
markhoppus@johncmayer you'd win. hands-down. i'd come with the 100%OG 1957 esquire and you'd come with the SRV custom shop howyadoin' 1 of 3 gtr...
johncmayer@markhoppus http://www.twitpic.com/6tbir You mean this Neve 8014, 16 channel console?
markhoppus@johncmayer are you talking about the tube tech rm8? how's that?
markhoppus@johncmayer similar, but we have a better monitoring section. i think we have 8 channels of aux/monitoring...
johncmayer@markhoppus Stop googling your information. http://twitpic.com/6tbl1 8 channels of 1073s. You have 2 more technically.
markhoppus@johncmayer i'm not googling anything. on trust.
johncmayer@markhoppus http://www.twitpic.com/6tbof Helios console. Know it? It's unreal. We run drums through it.
markhoppus@johncmayer hear about it, but never seen or heard one in person. if you're running that, you're winning already...
johncmayer@markhoppus yah, but my RM8 is summed into my 8014, which means that we have 24 channels of 1073s and 6 buses on mixdown.
markhoppus@johncmayer you son of a bitch. i can't quit you. you had me at dumble # 002...
johncmayer@markhoppus You have the whole studio rolling right now. A mass LOL.
markhoppus@johncmayer haha. what you sing through? OG telefunken elam-251? sm-57 like bono (is that just a rumor?) what you got?
johncmayer@markhoppus have a 251 and a U47. The 47 is what I use most of the time. Ever seen a stereo 251 called a 270?
johncmayer@markhoppus check out this unit called a Sound Devices 722/744. http://www.sounddevices.com/ - my favorite purchase of all time.
markhoppus@johncmayer the sound devices unit looks rad. will have to check it out. you win the studio gear war this time...what you use to monitor?
johncmayer@markhoppus the real winners here are the listeners!!!

John Mayer is an acustic rock artist who can rock a guitar like no other! In 2003 he won his first Grammy Award for "Your Body Is a Wonderland" and since then has continued his success by winning additional Grammys. There is no doubt that he has more success to come as he releases his fifth album Battle Studies. InSeats.com offers permier tickets for his current tour so you can catch all his hit new singles. hmmm. who knew these two were such studio masterminds i guess that explains the awesome sound or those early blink albums, must of really worked hard for the killer punk tone. It's also good to know that by the time "JM"'s music is downloaded from itunes and stuck in the earbud of today's youth, at least it sounded good some where, in a studio far far away.

Seriously... you guys are mega-tools. JM is getting all kinds of respect in the blues community from current and soon-to-be legends. The difference between JM and the haters is that he was gifted with amazing skills and an understanding of guitar you tools will never get. Rene Martinez himself, SRV's tech, put off retirement to jump on with JM because of his playing. What do you guys have? What have you done for the guitar? Put or shut up, stop hating and support the dudes that will keep music honest.

That's some funny stuff right there! Rockstars talkin' Neves & mics... hehehe What's with all the hate in the comments though? If ya'll were "better" then these two you'd be household names yourselves.

JM does it all. Writes, sings, and plays his ass off. He has a lot of soul, for a young man. Great stuff.

Agreed that their music is pretty lame.

D-bag may be a bit strong. Mayer's bit on Chapelle's Show was great, though JM had little to do with it.
