Joe Satriani switches up his Chickenfoot rig to Marshall JVM410H amps

We have some gear news to pass along...

Joe Satriani is now using Marshall amps in his backline on the Chickenfoot tour. Recent fan phone videos show Satch's Peavey signature series amp next to some Marshalls and Marshall has made an official announcement on their UK website. A US representative of Korg confirmed the news with Premier Guitar and said that more information is to come.

The Marshall UK website announcement states that Satriani sought the company out and decided upon the JVM410H for his European tour. Satriani's latest amp of choice was the JSX signature Peavey line of amps (the latest model debuted at Winter NAMM '09). Peavey's website is promoting the company's gear connection to Chickenfoot bassist Michael Anthony, who is using the VB-3 all-tube bass head and matching VB-810 enclosure. The company's web news item about Chickenfoot has been adjusted since the news broke and no longer refers to Joe's signature Peavey gear.

When asked by British website Music Radar about the switch, Satriani said, "What can I say? I guess I'm crazy... But, I'm just looking to achieve the best guitar sound every moment I'm plugged in, and that brought me back to Marshall Amps."

Peavey has no comment on the story.

Peavey's, especially the ones designed by James Brown (not the singer, the amp and pedal designer) are/were some of the best in the business. Half the amp modeling software out there has 5150 amp models, and I sincerly doubt they would have a model of a crate or anything like that! I do see that Brown has left Peavey around the same time as Joe, and now Peavey is making stuff in China as well as recycling old designs and passing them off as new (3120, etc) so maybe they've gone downhill? It used to be all US made. Oh well, I have an amp from the glory days, Marshall does seem to be making a comeback though I admit!

I have Fender, Gibson, Marshall, and Peavey amps. The most unreliable amps I have the Marshalls hands down. The JCM900 eats both tubes & fuses. For tone they all have their place. For a song that the Gibson Super Goldtone is right for the Peavey MasterPiece 50 won't cut it. Customer support Peavey wins by a mile. Parts, schematics, assistance, whatever you need. Anyone who insists that it has to be one make over the other is blind. For what Joe wanted with Chickenfoot, maybe the Marshall was better suited. It may have taken a total redesign of the amp to fit with the tone characteristics that Joe wanted. I wouldn't put Peavey down for designing an amp to Joe's specifications and requests; and then Joe switching to a Marshall. To me that sounds like Joe has issues of his own. The Peavey staff work with artists to give them exactly what they want. If it isn't right after the artist has listened to multiple versions that were tweaked with the artists input and then even approved the final version, that sounds like an issue with the artist to me.

Marshall does not pay artists to use their amps, they never have.

really, does anyone who has any real world experience think any Peavey on the planet sounds any good??? Never Happens!! Marshall amps not only sound amazing but hold up amazingly. I've only had trouble with a jcm900 blown transformer in 43 years of playing. Now i"ve scaled backe to a 1-12 1985 Marshall master reverb 30 watt which sounds just like a tube amp only without the tube hassle. Find one of these and say, whats that stink? it's a Peavey!!! are you kiddin me???

"If you were rich, most people would have mulitiple amps." KD, you're such a kidder. One of the reasons for the present economic crisis is that most people HAVE multiple amps. Unfortunately, they're not rich.

"That would be Bogner...the American made Marshall by a crazy German. How perfect is that?" And SO perfectly American. How can you lose???
