Happy May Day! Hopefully at some point this lovely afternoon you will receive a popcorn and candy-filled basket signifying spring, sunshine and butterflies. If that concept is less cute and more soul crushing for you, maybe this list of rock n' roll-related events that occurred on May 1 will bring you more joy.
Various May 1 occurrences include:
- Elvis scored his first #1 with "Heartbreak Hotel"
- The Beatles played their last on-stage performance
- Previous Village Voice writer Jimmy McDonough sued Neil Young for $1.8 million

Check out the winners of this year's Southern Gospel News awards. This year's big winner: The Isaacs. The band snagged four titles, including Mixed Group of the Year, Album of the Year and Country/Bluegrass Album of the Year.

You've probably heard too much about the whole Radiohead gives away album at consumer-decided price, especially since a slew of other bands have since copied the idea. However, the band has come out stating they will no longer approach sales with the "pay your own price" pitch. Radiohead's front man, Thom Yorke, said the idea was made for a moment in time, but probably wouldn't have the same significance in the future anyway.
The band is also in the news for using one of their songs in the fight against sweatshops and human trafficking.
