Vox Announces Valvetronix Pro VTX150 Neodymium Amp

Flagship VOX modeling amplifier includes extras.

Frankfurt, Germany (April 6, 2011) — VOX Amplification has expanded their popular Valvetronix series of modeling amplifiers with the new Valvetronix Pro VTX150 Neodymium. This combo amp features 150 Watts of power into a 12" Celestion VOX NeoDog speaker.

At the heart of every Valvetronix amp is the “Valve Reactor” circuit. First introduced in 2001, the Valve Reactor circuit uses a real vacuum tube to provide all Valvetronix amps with true tube tone. For the VTX150 Neodymium, the Valve Reactor circuit has been enhanced, using an EL84 tube in place of the traditional 12AX7 tube to create a sonic signature.

The VTX150 Neodymium boasts 44 amp models—the most in any Valvetronix amp. For each of these 44 amp models, the VTX150 Neodymium provides three variations—Basic, Effect, and Song—delivering a total of 132 expertly voiced preset programs. The Basic variation projects the true character of that amp model, and the Effect variation integrates the amp model and effects. The Song variation delivers a faithful recreation of the signature sound used by a famous guitarist to perform one of their classic tracks. Eight custom user programs can be created and saved (16 when using the VOX VC-12SV foot controller).

The broad array of effects is divided into two sections: Pedal effects such as stomp-box style distortion, wah, and compressor—and modulation/delay effects such as chorus, flanger, and tape echo. Each section offers 11 effects to choose from. In addition, there are three types of reverb (Room, Spring and Hall). With the addition of Noise Reduction, up to four different effects can be used at the same time.

The VTX150 Neodymium uses a Celestion VOX NeoDog speaker, created using a lightweight and powerful neodymium magnet. Ample expandability is provided, including an effect loop and an extension speaker output. In addition, the new VTX150 Neodymium features a unique Power Level control, making it possible to achieve high levels of gain and distortion at any listening level.

For added convenience, the VTX150 Neodymium is compatible with either the VOX VC-12SV foot controller or VFS5 foot switch. The line output features speaker emulation, making it ideal for practice and recording, and a line input allows jamming along to MP3s, CDs, etc. An automatic guitar tuner is built right in.

I have one. Love it. Been using the blue VT's since they came out. They weren't very reliable. This thing is loud and proud! It does suffer from not being able to use mod and delay at once except for one chorus/delay setting. Otherwise it rocks big time.

The weight is 26.5 pounds, compared to 31 pounds for the VT80+ (the regular single 12 combo) and 44 pounds for the older VT50. In addition to the lighter weight, I think Vox is selling the Neo as a better sounding speaker.

I'm shure they will give us a great amp modeler, but the power consumtion is only 60 watts, therefore I doubt the statement of VOX with respect to the 150 watts of power:-).

Wattage handling is all in the magnet/voice coil. EV has been making 200w 12in speakers since the 80s. Nice to see the reverb is seperate from the rest. It would be a "perfect" amp if the following happened: separate mod and delay so BOTH can be used at the same time, and 2 "stomp box" choices. This is not the Black Diamond, but it's great to see VOX getting back in the game for real.

Looks nice. Curious that the press release doesn't mention weight, given that's the prime selling point for a neo speaker. Also curious how a single 12" speaker can handle 150 watts. I was under the impression that the VOX NeoDog was pretty much a Celestion Century Vintage. That's a 60 watt speaker
