42 gauge is the most common wire used in pickup manufacturing. This and other common building techiniques are covered in this clip. Also, Evan expalins why Seymour Duncan goes through great lengths to use the same bobbin material used in many classic pickups. Perhaps the coolest part of this video - check out the original winder once owned by Gibson and used for early PAF humbuckers. SD has the winder now and still uses it today.

Good stuff! I met S.W.D. here in Cleveland at a now defunct music store. He was kind and patient, especially to my son! He asked if I had a catalog, I didn't so lo and behold a couple of weeks later one showed up with a included hand written note about how nice it was to meet us. dated 1993, it remains tacked to my wall in the den! Thanks Seymour for great products and great conversation!

The guy seemed to dehumanize the nice lady that was doing the winding. Yes the machine is original but without the skill of that lady, the machine is worthless.

Love it especially the explanation of the old Gibson Leesona winding machine
