DigiTech RP500 Demo
Digitech's Jason Lamb visits the PG offices and walks us through one of their hottest products, the RP500. For an MSRP of $299, DigiTech offers lots of bang for the buck with?many presets, modulations and stompbox settings.

As I promised, I got my rp500. As I said before, I got also a Digitech Metal Master to get heavy distortions. The first thing that I have to say, is that I am reaaally impressed with the sound. It has lots of distortions, like vintage ones.. classic. Lots of effects, weird ones.. etc. Wah's and Yah's sounded better than I expected.. Before I had a try with the rp500 I was thinking of buying a wah pedal... dunlop maybe... but.. now that ive heard this thing.. I think i saved maybe 300 hundred in other pedals. Unfortunately, there is one flaw that i expect to have.. haevy distortions do not sound as real as you would like to... but, as i said, I got a digitech metal master.. and with that... you got everything you need. My advice: Buy rp500 and a heavy distortion stompbox, and you'll get a sound like no other. If you have no need of heavy distortions, then rp500 is just the thing.

I had a rp200, and the distortions sounded pretty bad, then I bought the digitech metal master to get some real distortion, and then all the system sounded cool. The rp200 was great doing yah, wah, end the other things.
Now, I expect to buy this rp500, because of their new dna chip.. and ill see how is the wah and the reverb going on.. but no way im selling my digitech stomp box.. which is by far best than a boss stompbox.
Ill post a new comment when i get my rp500

They failed to use them the right way

Sounds horrible. Why does every pedal maker say the same things? "This is modeled after so and so's sound" and it sounds NOTHING like the artists sound. I toured with a band that used a couple of Digitech pedals, they always failed.

If it sounds like shit you sure as hell have no clue how to use it.I think this thing is great price is great. Read the paperwork it will take a little while to tweak it to your liking.

Ive owned VOX Tonelab, Line6 X3, Line6 X3 Live, Pocket Pod, RP150, RP500, etc... I love using effects so im always getting new ones. The RP500 in my opinion was the worst I ever used. It sounded SO thin. I sent it back the next day. The Line6 stuff is by far the best. Even the Pocket Pod sounds more solid than this RP500. If you are insistant on buying Digitech stuff, I would recomment the RP150 before I would recommend this thing. The RP500 does alot of great stuff, but the sound is just too THIN. The amp modeling is terrible compared the real thing.

If you know how to use the technology, this unit produces some amazing tones. I have been using various modeling units for years now and you have to approach them differently than you would a regular amp rig. I get great tone from my RP-500, but it didn't come without a ton of work in the past to understand the technology and process to arrive at good tone.

I tried one of these things out because my other guitar player has one. It worked really well in front of my DSL50. I turned off the amp modeling (who cares about it) and used it as a bunch of stompboxes. Pretty cool.

If they really want to sell this thing they need to do what Bazar says and demo it with a real rig. also it would be great to demo the amp and cab models through a clean studio monitor so we can really hear what the unit is capable of. Also there are questions that weren't touched on such as: are changes between amp models and cabs smooth or is there noise glitches when changing? Also are the levels normalized so there are not radical differences when switching between clean and distorted sounds.
