In the third segment of Reunion Blues' Vintage Guitars Road Show, the show hits up Bananas at Large in California. Highlights include:

  • A very rough '69 Jazz Bass with so many modifications - including removal of the binding, and the owner's name and SSN etched into the hardware - the appraisers get a little upset. Still, the bass' value will surprise you.
  • The single prototype of Fender's Gold Custom Shop Strat. There was a limited run of 100, which was commissioned for NAMM's 100th anniversary in 2001.
  • Near-perfect 1961 SG-style Les Paul Jr.

When they state that '61 was the only year Gibson made that Jr, why are they discounting those made in '62 and '63? IIRC, Gibson didn't actually change the name of that model to "SG Junior" until 1964.

Still..........a guitar is worth whatever a person is willing to pay for it. You can't get around that fact. Keep in mind too, if it is yours...its wonderful....if its his...its junk....

Now that the economy is in recession, let's see some of those ridiculously high prices drop a bit.

Over $4000 for a post-CBS Jazz Bass with neck bindings destructively removed, Fralin pickups and a Badass II bridge?

A '61 LP/SG Jr. for $4k? Oh, get real!
