PG's Jordan Wagner is On Location in Chicago, IL, backstage at the House of Blues where he catches up with one of Testament's guitarists, Alex Skolnick. In this video segment, we hear from Alex about his collaboration with Heritage Guitars out of Kalamazoo, MI, as they are in the final stages on completing his signature guitar, which features Skolnick's John Hancock on the headstock, mahogany body, maple top and Seymour Duncan '59 Jeff Beck humbuckers. In addition to talking about his ongoing relationship with Heritage, he walks us through his live rig for the current Testament tour, which includes a Marshall Mode 4 Head, MXR EVH Phase 90, Boss DD-20 Giga Delay and a Moollon signal boost.

man everyone but megadeth is crazy! rack effects prosessor a tube power amp, tuner and a wireless! simple. Example: roctron chameleon/voodoo valve and a velocity or marshall or mesa power. its stereo and all the little boxes are all in there. i love boss pedals but the rocktron with HUSH blowes all that poop away.

Sometimes the most expensive gear isn't always the best. There's a reason why most of your pros are using less expensive gear like Boss, MXR, Peavey and even Marshall instead of all this boutique gear. That reason is these companies have years of experience with what works and sounds best in any given musical forum. And also, they are putting out some great products themselves, along with the tried and true classics everyone else is trying to copy.

It always amazes me also the stereotypes involved with guitarists and especially the 'gear snobs' you run into. I can relate to Alex's Guitar Center experience because it happens every time I go there to buy gear also. It's also interesting to note that I remember reading an old interview with Eddie Van Halen and he stated that he likes the less expensive gear because he can get better sounds out of it. In other words, whatever works for you!

Metalbucker, most high gain amps sound like &*%$ with high gain pickups, too much compression. My Les Paul with alnico II p'ups sounds great through a dual rectifier opposed to EMG's (yuck).

Hell yeah, Mode 4 man! That's what it's about. I have one and I'll never get rid of it!

Alex's Les Paul's are not Gibson, they were built by the Heritage Guitar company.

A J.B.? Why Does He Use Such A WEAK Bridge Pickup? Does He Think He's in Ratt or Something?

Tom and Archer should listen to the artist both musically and verbally. Not meaning to sound bitchy and I don't know your skills but you obviously haven't had the success Alex has had. Maybe he's just not be really comfortable interviewing to your taste but the man is an intelligent and excellent musician!
