Joe Coffey is On Location in Nashville, TN, where he's backstage at the Ryman Auditorium and chats with surf-guitar legend Nokie Edwards. They talk about Nokie's hand-made signature guitar, the HitchHiker. It features a swamp ash body, quilted maple top, a maple/walnut neck with ebony fingerboard and Sperzel locking tuners.

Also, Nokie plays us some Chet Atkins, Eagles and Eric Clapton to show off his versatility and love for all types of music.

I have been lucky enough to be a guest at Nokie's house at a private barbeque and concert! One of the must humble people I have ever met and playing the guitar for him is like breathing for you and me. He just loves to play the guitar..with or without a crowd...for Nokie it is all about the joy that you derive from doing something you love...sharing that with others only makes it better. Thanks for the music and the wonderful memories Nokie and Judy!

What a great musician and guitar stylist. I could watch Nokie play all night long. I liked when Nokie shared how he set the tone on his guitar. I wish more of that information was shared ....how the guitar and amp controls were set for the different songs we love to hear.....thanks Nokie!

Really great interview Joe Coffey!!..Really well done....You had great respect for one of the originals in Rock and Roll.. My 1st band 45 years ago was a Ventures cover band.. I still love that music, and it taught me much about arrangement, soloing, phrasing ect that I still use today..Thanks so much!!

Nokie Edwards was and still is a true inspiration for me. I had the greatest pleasure in speaking with Nokie about his Hitchiker Guitar. Nokie is the main reason that I started playing the guitar from the 60's. I teach younger guys the Venture song. You will never meet two better people than Judy and Nokie.....the only thing I can say is.....Nokie you are the best, thank you for every thing.

Nokie Edwards is without a doubt a true legend in his own time. He has along with The Ventures as a group been solely responsible for so many people learning how to play a guitar. He and Judy are truly kind and thoughtful to take time for fans too. I was quite thrilled and lucky to have the chance to talk with Nokie just a few months ago. Thanks Judy & Nokie, GOD bless you both...

Nokie Edwards has one of the greatest indie music catalogs of CDs known to music. Did you know Nokie was GRAMMY-NOMINATED for these 2 fabulous albums: 20th CENTURY GOSPEL and SOUTHERN MEETS SOUL? His catalog just on GREENHAW RECORDS alone is awesome: ventures hits, blues, gospel, pop, light jazz, country, rockabilly. Visit www.artgreenhaw.com MERCHANDISE pages

Great interview, but why oh why did they not have a small amp so we could hear his guitar playing properly?

Having met my guitar-god hero on 3 or 4 occasions, I can attest he is a man of few words, but many many notes just as you see here. But thanks to this video, I now know a little more about the gear on the Hitchhiker, and I get a look at a few more licks that I'll never master quite like Nokie. Happy to see him get the GP Lifetime Achievement Award.
