PG's Jordan Wagner is On Location in Anaheim, CA, for the 2010 NAMM Show where he visits the PRS booth. In this segment, we talk with Paul Reed Smith about what's new from his company in 2010 and the announcement of the 25th Anniversary editions on several of his models.

First up, we check out the Orianti SE Signature model that has a korina body, maple top and neck with an ebony fingerboard. It also has a PRS-style trem and PRS humbuckers in both positions.

Next is the Swamp Ash Special Narrowfield, which is the first PRS production model to feature the new Narrowfield pickups. The Narrowfield pickups focus the string attack much like a singlecoil but are hum-canceling. The result is a new sounding pickup system, which blends features of single coil, soap bar, and humbucking pickups. The Swamp Ash Special is a 25th Anniversary model and features shadow bird inlays, anniversary headstock eagle and an optional maple fretboard.

The Dallas II is a 50-watt boutique amp well suited for the working musician. While the amplifier will support many musical styles, it is well suited for the single coil player as well as anyone looking for a high quality amp with plenty of head room to support their favorite pedals. The half hand-wired and half PC board construction allows for all the quality and sound of PRSs original Dallas amplifier, but the Dallas II fits comfortably into our Tuxedo line of amps. Like the original Dallas, the Dallas II provides the classic, balanced sounds of 6L6 tubes, huge sounding cleans, and moderate overdrive.

The PRS Signature amplifier is a further refinement of the PRS Original Sewell that has been tweaked to Paul Reed Smiths personal specifications. Paul Reed Smith describes this EL34 amp as the Original Sewell on steroids. It has a simple layout with the only controls being a Bright switch, Treble, Bass and Master Volume.

The video clip makes it sound like crap because the microphone used is being overloaded. It's pretty obvious if you listen. The amp sounds great in person, very responsive to changes in control settings.

The NF pickups are pretty neat and sound good, I got to try them out at the Experience PRS event last Fall. They look sort of like a mini-humbucker if you just glance at them installed in a guitar. However, the bobbins are deeper and I think longer than a mini-hum and that changes the shape of the magnetic field they generate. They are NOT just mini-humbuckers with a new name. Try 'em in person at a store. You got nothing to loose but a lot to gain.

why can't they just call the pick ups what they are? (baby/mini humbuckers) nothing new..
and how many different damn birds are they gonna do before they leave it alone...oh wait they wont leave it alone not with this economy...
how bout the good old bird for the anniversary ?
look to the future by celibrating your past..
oh wait that would be all other guitar companies...hmmm... guess you gotta discontinue it before you can reissue it.
maybe my custom 22 will go up in value then or not....
oh well still love the guitars,
keep on keepin on and fixin what aint broke.
guess you gotta find new ways to sell the same old brand
at least theres no guitar of the week....YET....

Wow! Major sucking up to the man! :-) Well, the man DOES make nice stuff. That Swamp Ash Special is awesome but I'm not too clear on the Orianthi sig model. Orianthi does NOT play an SE so why an SE sig? Affordability for the girls who are inspired by her maybe? Marketing genius at work? ;-) It's a great looking guitar though. BTW, the March Guitar World CD includes a video interview with Orianthi. She's adorable and she plays like nobody's business. She's going to be a very important guitarist not just for women but for guys too. Let's get her together with Tal Wilkenfeld, huh? The Aussie SuperGirls.
