PG's Joe Coffey is On Location in Frankfurt, Germany, for the 2010 Musikmesse show where he visits the Kala Ukulele booth. In this segment, we get to see and hear from their U-Bass.

The U-Bass is a short-scale bass (21") that produces the same pitches as a standard bass and is tuned like a standard bass, too. The U-Bass is made with a one-piece of mahogany and comes with a rosewood fretboard and bridge. It is loaded with four individual piezo element pickups so it works as a fully-functioning bass.

I heard one of these live at a bluegrass festival, of all things. Raised the eyebrows of the bluegrass players - electric, doesn't look anything like a stand up bass. But it sounded fabulous. I will probably pick one up.
