PG's Joe Coffey is On Location in San Luis Obisbo, CA, where he gets a tour of the Ernie Ball Music Man facilities from EBMM's CEO Sterling Ball.

In this segment, Sterling takes us through the Ernie Ball Music Man factory that produces the company's guitars and basses. Here, we get to see specific processes on how the guitars are setup, how the necks are carved, shaped, and given EBMM's signature feel and playability, the patented chamber patterns of an Axis, how they do seamless binding, and Sterling talks about how it's hard being a CEO during these shaky economic times.

If more CEOs were as dedicated to the quality of their products and satisfying the customer as to turning a profit, like people like Sterling Ball or Robert Godin are, it would not be a "dirty word".

Wow! liquid binding, now that is a different way to skin a cat. I might have to try that trick. Binding is always a bear. Great tour, the care really shows through.

Those 17 minutes flew by in a mere instant. Please go back and give us about 17 HOURS with Sterling Ball and his factory. Who would have known that Sterling Ball is such an unpretentious, genuinely nice person? His statement (paraphrased from memory) "Our customers are not our quality control department, and our customers are not our setup department" should be adopted by several other guitar manufacturers. High quality standards coupled with some very interesting and innovative production techniques; what a plan! After playing EB strings for around 40 years, its really nice to meet the producer.

Incredibly inspiring and Sterling obviously has a great sense of humor. I need to shake his hand at NAMM in a couple of weeks. Thanks Joe

I love the liquid binding idea....I never would've guessed it. There are some surprising techniques at work here, I'd guess anyone who sees this may need to investigate these guitars a little more closely....I know I will.
