Saw EJ last night, front row and in front and fell in LOVE with that '64 SG. He played a Cream-like tune on it and then back to the black Strat. He also surprised the hell out of me by playing Coltranes's "Mr. P.C." on a vintage Les Paul goldtop. Seemed to just move effortlessly between the two necks. He had a laugh though as he flubbed "Cliffs of Dover" and I thought "He's HUMAN!". That was great, that's the only EJ tune I try to play. How he can pull off those rapid pentatonic sequences is a sight to behold though...

I love Erics tone and his music. I find it funny that people seems to shift focus towards his tone and his nerdy nut case behaviour in getting the tone. However, if there was a drummer and bass player that was EQUALLY as nitpicking about their "tones" as Eric was and they played together, the album would've sounded even more marvelous. I guess we'd been still waiting for that debut album, though.

nice,but quick interview....have met e.j. a couple times, a real gentleman....his tone/musical vision is one of the best on the planet....sure gives me something to always strive for !!

I agree with Jim and Mirror. I dont get Mook's idea of change for change sake. Artists like John Sykes & Bill Connors have stuck to primarily one rig for most everything in their career. Heck Sykes has not used anything but his classic JCM & LP for the last decade as he did in the beginning. So whats the point? its interesting to see how EJ ages with time and sometimes just the simple things that get added and moved around. As Jim said, he is one very nice guy. Met him once about 10 years ago and though we only got a chance to chat for about 30 minutes on the plane ride it was after the first 5 min or so he treated as if had been friends for the last 20 years.

Ok. It's way past time for MOOK to wake up on EJs consistent tone and classic rig. Not only has it not needed changing in 25 years but all that time it's always sounded current and fresh. MOOK has seen EJ many times because he is jealous of EJ and that MOOK himself rarely sounds like a pro. MOOK needs to develop and change his sound over time and EJ has totally skipped any sound evolution because EJ has already found his tone nirvana. And this is about the millionth time MOOK has seen a rig story on EJ's gear because even though he doesn't like EJ, MOOK is obsessed with EJ's talent and success due to lacking his own. News: EJ hasn't needed/desired to change in ages so what is the point of MOOK reading EJ's reviews, watching EJ perform or criticizing what works for someone else? MOOK: wake up. Get some new gear and a new sound. Keep searching, keep practicing. MOOK should be so lucky as to sound half as good through a tube driver? OMG. wow. Three sounds in 30 years and still more tone and talent than MOOK. Hit a therapist MOOK and get with something new, such as an open mind. "MOOK? Never heard of him 'til I checked out EJ's rig for the first time."

@Mook, o.k. he may have "outdated" gear, but his tone is amazing. At least he does not sound like overly distorted Steve Vai or Joe Satriani. I mean, they are fast... but Eric is so musical. People get so hung up on gear, they forget about the music. @Rahm, yes I bet you would take those 57s off his hands. Probably not gonna happen. Nice guy, nice try.

Eric seems like such a class act. You would think he was tired of answering the same questions over and over about his gear. But, he knows his fans, and seems so cool with no big ego. I have seen Eric live many times, always a great show.

It surprises me that he runs his delays in front of the overdriven Marshall amps. He used to take the miked signal of the amps, sending it through his delays and towards 2 JBL powered speakers for a dry/wet setup.
