Fender and Gibby are a friggin bore. I have a Strat and Paul, and enough already!. Also, why does every guitar manufacturer have to imitate these two companies?
Innovation and playability are what it is all about.
Nostalgia is fine but, in the near future, with the forthcoming combination of digital and analog elements in new designs, no pro will be able to afford nostalgia.
And, why in the hell does Fender not make a double cutaway, 24-fret shreddermobile? It would be sick.
Playability comes first, then everything else.

I wonder if someone would say they were design over functionality if the strat or les paul were originally desgined in the shape of the Birdfish... Body shape doesn't affect functionality as much as knowledge and ease of use, which I see no problems with in any of these. If you want to stick with the classical design, go buy a dreadnought acoustic and try to solo past the 14th fret. I think these are genius.

I own a Tesla and it is an incredible guitar. Even if you are a player that likes to wrap your thumb over the neck, you might be surprised at how easy it is to adapt. The groove that is the joint between the neck and the body provides a firm anchor for the thumb, if needed.

Interesting...but would the average joe really be interested in these? I guess it's cool to highlight some of the oddball instruments out there though.

Interesting design, but it seems that quickly changing pickup settings would be very difficult and there is no indication as to what position the selector is set. This is clearly an example of design instead of function.

Absolutely great tone. I'm guessing these are ridiculously expensive, though.

Of the three reviewed I like the BirdFish its a very futuristic yet practical design interchangeable sliding pickups are nothing new but the tone bars are unique and it would be interesting to hear how different wood combinations sound... :)

Looks pretty interesting. I'd be concerned about an alder neck on the Niwa. All of the alder I've ever used is very lightweight and soft. That's ok on a body with a thick hard finish, but I think the stresses on a neck would be better suited to a more traditional neck material like maple. I note from their website that they specify 'high stiffness' alder. I don't want to critisize too much - I'm a part time guitar/amp building, full time furniture maker. I actually think these are incredible guitars, and they all sound amazing. I like the boundary pushing that Teuffel is obviously into.
