I'm still waiting on a Nile Rogers stratocaster. The guy has played on a billion dollars worth of recordings and still doesn't have a artist signature guitar. that is why fender guitars are poor instruments.

yup I remember the good ole 70s,being 15 and getting the new fender catalog, page 0ne the stratocaster, page two, telecaster, page three-the jaguar!-one of each-that's all-and it was pretty friggin exciting-no big apple,select,blacktop...no confusion-simpler times-But you knew you were getting the best, shiniest, kickass product-in retrospect what I admire most about Leo Fender's design philosophy is that he used the SAME quality wood, electronics and parts on the musicmaster and mustang-student models as on strats and teles-good luck finding that mentality today!I'm a Fender freak to this day but I just think that they(like Gibson)will try anything to sell more models,,,firebirdX anyone???now you get to pay $3500 for a flame top strat just like jackson made in the 80s for a grand? how bout a waaay over worn soooper relic with NO paint left for$6500?and the relic noneck?-an extra grand or two for a strat without a TRUSS ROD? eek.who came up with that one? -You gotta a give props to the custom shop tho, the stuff they make IS art-but most working, real musicians(unless you're Paul McCartney)can't afford a real Picasso! Nice work but you're killing us with the pricing.well, time to go put some new strings on my plain ole 1964...stratocaster!

The "good" Fenders that will have value decades from now are so expensive and so out of reach to the working musician, they ought to be sold at Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Fender's Custom Shop NAMM display had guitars priced around $10 K. That's the customer they want to target. Fender is pricing themselves ouf the market so the next generation of musicians will not use them to create the next generation of rock music. I've yet to see any Fender Custom Shop guitar in the hands of a "baby band" on any club stage. Working musicians will buy and use Fender Highway 1, Fender American Standard, and American Special guitars or buy used instruments.

I've had a '77 since I was 15. Back then, if you wanted a Strat, there was only ONE. Yes, the tuners were 9:1 ratio and the neck shifted with the three-bolt configuration, but you had pride of ownership. My only regret was that I didn't accept the offer to purchase a '64 Strat for $400 in 1981. I had played a '60'64 and didn't like it.

Thanks for your great show reviews.
Love the sound of the Select Series Strat HHS, I have a 2011 American Std.
HHS. Please let us know what amp and effects were used on the demo. I need that sound, may have to upgrade too!

I still prefer to build a Warmoth parts guitar, better options and no cheap string trees due to cheap tuners. Carvin can be an alternative also. Fender should listen to the customers instead of shooting to the air.
