Kiln-dried woods are dried where oxygen is still in the kiln, where "roasted" woods are dried at a higher temperature, but with all the oxygen sucked out so the wood doesn't burn up (fire requires oxygen)...two totally different processes. Roasted woods are inherently far more stable in an environment than kiln-dried woods.

Interesting concept, though I suppose this is similar to kiln dried wood. With the enormous number of guitars being built these days, getting properly dried tone wood is next to impossible. Unfortunately the end result is often guitars that have structural problems within a few months of purchase as the wood continues to dry out.

Monte Pittman plays guitar for Madonna, and is a Bourgeois endorser. The new Aged Tone guitars seem really amazing. While the ones Dana has in the video have the torrefied (roasted) Adirondack Spruce tops, apparently there was a prototype where all of the woods were roasted...I wonder if he felt the extra effort wasn't warranted. In any event, with these guitars starting in the $5K range, I wonder if it might make better sense to spend a bit more and get, say, a pre-war or wartime D-18 that has "issues" (refinish, repairs, etc.). Of course, these AT guitars could be especially compelling once used ones start showing up at a reduced price, which may or may not happen for quite a while, and certainly won't happen unless people first buy them new. That said, I find the whole AT concept to be very exciting, and much more interesting than anything else that is "new" in vintage style acoustic guitars.
