Up Close and Personal

A wise man once told me – and the older I get, the more I believe it – that there are three types of people in this world: those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what the hell just happened!

Here at Premier Guitar we aspire to be the first kind of people. As you come to expect your information to be delivered in more depth, and in more ways, we are constantly pushing the envelope to satisfy your expectations.

But whether you get your information from our print magazine, our website, our digital edition or even through your fancy new iPhone, it’s all about getting better tone. And getting better tone often starts with discovering better gear. With that in mind, we are intent on showing you how the best gear is created in the first place, by taking you through some of our industry’s most respected builders. We are not just going to tell you about them; we are going to take you inside the factory to show you everything, with a full array of video support so you can get the full experience. You’ll be able to access the intimate workings of these builders from the comfort of your own living room with a beer in your hand. Talk about a personalized tour with our community’s other “rock stars”.

This month’s issue kicks off our “On Location” touring series with an in-depth look at Taylor Guitars’ operations in sunny El Cajon, California. And that’s just the beginning; keep an eye out for tours through Dean, Hamer, Martin and many more. We’re just getting started!

In my humble opinion, many of history’s finest guitars, amps and pedals are being built right here, right now. Whether it’s recreations of vintage instruments, reissues, relics or the most cutting-edge technological advancements, the bar is being continually raised. Modern day gearheads should feel a bit humbled by the incredible quality of today’s gear.

We here at Premier Guitar believe it is incredibly important to not only respect this process, but to provide you with the opportunity to experience for yourself the talent, the craft and the artistic statements being made. Understanding how fine gear is built will enhance your appreciation of our community, and will in turn motivate you to enjoy your playing even more.

It’s pretty heavy stuff, I know, but at the end of the day, life is short, so play more guitar! Log onto premierguitar.com and start your discovery right now. The journey is long, but the road makes for a wonderful ride.

Nuff Sed,
Trent Salter, Publisher
