Lewiston, ME (July 24, 2012) – Grammy Award winning artist, Ray LaMontagne collaborates with Dana Bourgeois and Bourgeois Guitars on a Limited Edition Signature Series.
Bourgeois said about that partnership: "Ray's favorite, of his several Bourgeois guitars, is a sitka topped Country Boy Dreadnought. It's the one he kept on the tour bus, the hotel room and in the living room, handy to pick up whenever he needed to grab a guitar. That's the one we based the Signature model on. It is braced a little lighter than most of our bluegrass dreadnoughts, a feature inspired by Ray's frequent use of E flat tuning. As such, these dreads work especially well in concert tuning with either light or medium gauge strings, and in a variety of alternate tunings."
Ray LaMontagne says: "I wanted to focus on the balance within any given chord, and how the balance within the chord would relate to the voice. Also there was the challenge of building something that could deliver some punch playing open chords while tuned down a whole step. Dana took all my suggestions into consideration and set out to build a guitar we would both be proud to have our names on."
When asked how many guitars we should build for this series, LaMontagne mentioned that the year he turned thirty-three was a pretty good year for him. So, in honor of Ray LaMontagne's 33rd year, the series will be limited to 33 guitars.
Built from Premium Master Grade Sitka spruce and mahogany, and Hot Hide Glue construction, each guitar will bear a label hand signed by both Bourgeois and LaMontagne to designate the collaboration.
Appointments include wood rosette, Signature DB three color herringbone top border, Signature DB backstrip inlay, ivoroid body binding with black back and side purfling, and an elegant, understated fretboard inlay pattern requested by Ray and designed by Dana.
