Experience PRS '10 - Paul Reed Smith Interview

October 20, 2010
PG's Joe Coffey is On Location at Experience PRS 2010 where he sits down and talks with Paul Reed Smith about all things PRS Guitars for the upcoming 2011 year. In this video interview, PRS talks about the new V12 finish, DC3, NF3, and JA-15 guitars, and the new Recording Amp. In addition, he talks about what it takes to be a guitar innovator and entrepreneur in today's economic climate--and why it's vital to PRS Guitars.

The DC3 is features a flat alder body, bolt-on neck, steel bridge components, and three proprietary PRS DC3 singlecoil pickups based on PRS's award-winning 513 model platform, the DC3 has a warm, vintage tone and loads of modern appeal.

The NF3 is named after its versatile pickup configuration (3 pickups paired with a 5-way blade switch), the NF3 utilizes the modern pickup technology of PRS Narrowfield pickups. Narrowfields use the same wire as PRS's coveted 57/08 pickups, but are narrower pole-to-pole and deeper front-to-back. The result is a new sounding pickup system with exceptional clarity. Paired with a "pattern regular" bolt-on neck and flat body design, the NF3 is a modern classic.

The result of a collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and Paul Jackson, Jr., the JA-15 was originally designed with jazz musicians in mind. Highlights include a "pattern" neck shape, 53/10 pickups, a 2-piece adjustable bridge, and "V12" finish...all newly offered as standard appointments for the first wave of 2011 products. The warmth of the spruce top paired with the high-end clarity of the figured maple back creates a resonance in this guitar that is balanced with tonal clarity.

PRS is proud to offer a twenty-five piece limited run of Experience PRS 2010 Recording Amps. External switches on many gain and tone components that are normally inaccessible create a nearly infinite tonal and gain palate, making this "universal" amp perfect for recording...as does the amp's ability to go from the hardest of rock to super clean tones and cover everything in between.

NAMM-PRS Demos Swamp Ash Special,Orianthi,DallasII

February 9, 2010
PG's Jordan Wagner is On Location in Anaheim, CA, for the 2010 NAMM Show where he visits the PRS booth. In this segment, we talk with Paul Reed Smith about what's new from his company in 2010 and the announcement of the 25th Anniversary editions on several of his models.

First up, we check out the Orianti SE Signature model that has a korina body, maple top and neck with an ebony fingerboard. It also has a PRS-style trem and PRS humbuckers in both positions.

Next is the Swamp Ash Special Narrowfield, which is the first PRS production model to feature the new Narrowfield pickups. The Narrowfield pickups focus the string attack much like a singlecoil but are hum-canceling. The result is a new sounding pickup system, which blends features of single coil, soap bar, and humbucking pickups. The Swamp Ash Special is a 25th Anniversary model and features shadow bird inlays, anniversary headstock eagle and an optional maple fretboard.

The Dallas II is a 50-watt boutique amp well suited for the working musician. While the amplifier will support many musical styles, it is well suited for the single coil player as well as anyone looking for a high quality amp with plenty of head room to support their favorite pedals. The half hand-wired and half PC board construction allows for all the quality and sound of PRSs original Dallas amplifier, but the Dallas II fits comfortably into our Tuxedo line of amps. Like the original Dallas, the Dallas II provides the classic, balanced sounds of 6L6 tubes, huge sounding cleans, and moderate overdrive.

The PRS Signature amplifier is a further refinement of the PRS Original Sewell that has been tweaked to Paul Reed Smiths personal specifications. Paul Reed Smith describes this EL34 amp as the Original Sewell on steroids. It has a simple layout with the only controls being a Bright switch, Treble, Bass and Master Volume.
