March 30, 2010
PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location in Frankfurt, Germany, where he visits the VOX Amplification booth. In this segment, we get to check out the newest effects pedal from VOX - the Joe Satriani Signature Ice 9 Overdrive. The Ice 9 overdrive pedal is fourth in a series of effect pedals created in collaboration between world-renowned guitarist Joe Satriani and VOX.

With two distinct overdrive modes, versatile tone-shaping, and the ever-popular 'More' switch, the Ice 9 delivers a wide range of inspiring tones, yet remains remarkably easy to use. The Ice 9's controls are Gain, Tone, Bass Volume and it features the aforementioned More switch. In addition, it has another switch that goes between Vintage and Modern voicings. The Vintage mode employs a special op amp and premium diodes to offer overdrive effects that are sweetly warm and classic, with just the right amount of sparkle and sustain. In contrast, the Modern voice utilizes a Germanium diode to kick up a cutting-edge overdrive that is altogether new and aggressive.

NAMM '10 - VOX Amps AC30 Custom Demo

February 4, 2010
PG's Joe Coffey is On Location in Anaheim, CA for the NAMM 2010 Show where he visits the VOX Amplifiers booth. In this segment, we get to VOX's latest take on everybody's favorite VOX, the AC30.

The new AC30 Custom is based on the classic AC30 design. The Custom Series AC30C2 and AC30C2X offer numerous up-to-date enhancements, delivering the most versatile AC30 design in VOX history.

The AC30C2 and the AC30C2X amps make use of 3 x 12AX7 preamp tubes and use 4 x EL84 tubes to deliver 30 watts of power. The AC30C2 uses two 12" Celestion G12M Greenback speakers. The AC30C2X uses two 12" Celestion Alnico Blues. All models in the Custom Series offer a switchable 8/16 ohm output jack for powering an external speaker cabinet when you need to speak with a little more authority; using this jack will mute the internal speakers. Additionally, a 2nd extension speaker jack allows you to run an extra 16 ohm cabinet along with the internal speakers for a fuller sound.

Also, You can sweeten the sound of your Custom Series amplifier using the VOX Classic Tremolo effect. Both the speed and the depth are adjustable, allowing you to generate just the sound you want. A warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Custom Series amps, adding spaciousness to the sound. The AC30C2 and AC30C2X also include an additional tone control in the Reverb section.

In this segment, we get introduced to several new VOX guitars. First is the SDC 33, which is a singlecut mahogany body guitar with crazy 3-D contours. It also features VOX's Coaxe pickups in both positions, mahogany necks and rosewood fingerboards.

Another VOX guitar is the HDC 77 which is similar to the Gibson ES-335 in body style, however, this bad boy has the VOX 3-D contour body with a maple top and mahogany back and sides. This also comes with Coaxe pickups in both positions.

They also offer a great collection of custom shop options, including a headstock option modeled after the old VOX wah pedal (shown in video). If you can think, the VOX Guitars Custom Shop in California can probably craft it into a great guitar!

Video Review: Vox Night Train NT15H Head

July 22, 2009
Jordan reviews the Vox Night Train head. The Night Train is a single-channel 15 watt head that has a switch for either Pentode (15 watts) or Triode modes (7.5 watts). Another dynamic option is the Bright / Thick switch that accentuates the high-frequency components for a clear, ringing tone (Bright) or bypasses the tone circuit to boost the gain and create a chunkier, heavier sound (Thick). Other features include 2-EL84 power tubes, 2-12AX7 preamp tubes and has knobs for Gain, Treble, Middle, Bass and Master Volume.
