Summer NAMM - Fargen Amps Mini Plex MKII,Duo-Tone

July 29, 2010
PG's Brett Petrusek is On Location in Nashville, TN, for the 2010 Summer NAMM Show where he visits the Fargen Amps booth. In this video, we get to check out two of Fargen's amps--the Mini Plex MKII and the AC Duo-Tone.

The Fargen Mini Plex MKII features English classic rock and high gain crunch tones. It pumps out quality tone on par with a 50 or 100 watt Marshall, and maintains this tone at apartment/bedroom levels.

The Mini Plex MKII hand-wired tube amplifier delivers high-energy, cranked tube amp tone at quiet volumes with a mixture of great tube amp design, world-class custom components, and the amazing Kevin O'Conner Power Scaling technology. The power scaling circuit uses voltage manipulation (think variac) to control output volume and power tube overdrives without cutting high-end frequencies like an attenuator does, and allows you to run the amp anywhere from 12 watts down to below a 1/2 watt for the ultimate low volume jamming experience.

The Mini Plex MKII captures all of your favorite British high gain and classic rock tones with the help of our patented "Decade Switch" technology. The Fargen "Decade Switch" gives you 3 different classic sounds/gain structures and morphs between 3 completely different classic British preamp circuits ... the JTM45, Plexi JMP and JCM 800. It features EL34/KT66 /KT77/6550/6L6/5881/6V6 ECT tubes.

This new Fargen design features two channels of English vibe that will cover any and all of your EL84 Brit-tone needs. It all starts with the V15 channel. With its complex jangle and chime, it rings out for days with the perfect simplicity you expect from a classic AC-Brit style tube amp. It then follows with the throaty roar of the M18 Channel -- the perfect opposite of the V15 Channel. The Fargen AC Duo-Tone simply covers more sonic ground than any other 2 x EL84 tube amp you have heard, modern or vintage.

NY Amp Show '10-Eventide Eclipse V4 Model Updates

July 28, 2010
PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at the 2010 NY Amp Show where he visits the Eventide room. In this segment, we get to check out Eventide's Eclipse V4 rackmount effects processor and its new Time Factor & Mod Factor software updates and some of its latest amp models, too.

Eclipse is one of the only effects processor to feature 24-bit digital conversion and 96kHz sampling. They've packed almost 100 algorithms into Eclipse along with a two effects block design. The dual routing configurations let you use Eclipse as two independent effects processors; ideal for the smaller, budget-conscious studio. The two effects blocks' inputs and outputs can be configured for stereo or mono. Or, select a preset that combines two algorithms or recursive combinations for big multi-effects without sacrificing quality.

here's quick, seamless pitch shifting including our innovative Micro pitch shift, which FOH engineers and vocalists have come to rely on for turning good vocal performances into great ones. Eclipse boasts no fewer than 11 reverberation algorithms plus four plex algorithms. Originally developed for Eventide's industry-standard Orville™ and DSP 7000 series, these reverbs have been carefully and faithfully transplanted into Eclipse. And all reverbs are true stereo in and out, not mono in, stereo out. The vast array of delays lets you design lush, dense soundscapes. You'll find band delays, chorus delays, comb delays, ducked delays, ring delays and pan delays. And with 20 seconds of memory per effects block, Eclipse is a looper's delight. It's easy to get lost in the 20-second mono loop, 10-second dual loops, 20-second reverse loop, and 10-second dual reverse loop. Remember, these looping presets running on one FX block leaves the other FX block available for adding texture or dimension.

NY Amp Show '10 - Two Notes Torpedo VB-101 Demo

July 24, 2010
PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at the 2010 NY Amp Show where he visits the Two Notes Audio Engineering room and checks out their Torpedo VB-101.

In studio, on stage or at home, the VB-101 is a solution for quick, easy and silent miking of your bass and guitar amplifiers. Just plug your amplifier to the VB-101 instead of a speaker cabinet, directly at the power output. The Torpedo VB-101 replaces the usual mic'ing process by a powerful simulation of the speaker cabinet, the microphone, the microphone preamplifier, and the studio acoustic environment. The mic'ing process then takes place silently, with perfect control over the most important parameters: choice of speaker cabinet among many models, choice of microphone, and placement of the microphone around the cabinet.
