Video Review - Way Huge Aqua-Puss Analog Delay

April 15, 2010
PG's Jordan Wagner takes the Way Huge Electronics Aqua-Puss Analog Delay for spin in his latest review featured in the May issue of Premier Guitar Magazine.

The Aqua-Puss MKII has been reintroduced to the wild with a near spot-on recreation of the original delay pedal. The Aqua-Puss' Delay knob controls the speed from 20ms to over 300ms for cavernous tones. The Feedback control regulates delay duration and intensity, but an extreme setting can send the analog delay into self-oscillatingmode (demoed by Jordan), which can create a hysteria of noises and sounds. And the Blend knob lets you set a balance between dry and delayed signal?from mild to wild.

The controls are simplistic and basic -- Master Volume, Volume and Tone. In the back of the amp there is a pentode and triode switch that enables the guitarist to dial back the amp to 7 watts. The over-sized cabinet is packed with a single Customized Celestion G12H Anniversary speaker and the whole package weighs about 45 lbs.

The Powerball II featues include -- 4 Gain control knobs: Clean Gain-1, Crunch Gain-2, Lead Gain-3 and Lead Gain-4. It has two Bottom sound switches, one for Lead-Channel 3 and another one for Lead-Channel 4. Also, it has middle-boosted switching (works on all 4 channels) via front panel button or via footswitch. Another feature is the electronic power tube monitoring system (PTM) with LED indication (new version). Other front panel controls include EQ system Clean and Crunch: Bass, Middle, Treble-Clean, Treble-Crunch, EQ system Lead-Channel 3 and Lead-Channel 4: Bass, Middle or Middle-boosted, Presence and Depth Punch controls in the power amp stage.

The GigMaster 15 is a combo that has power scaling, an effects loop and the two channels share the EQ. The combo can be set at 15W / 5W / 1W / 0W and the switches are on the back (0W being for direct recording).

The new ENGL Fireball 100 features a darker, lower midrange focused tone. The new added Midrange Boost (which can be controlled via footswitch) plus the Bottom switch, Engl describes as adding that special fire to your sound. Engl describes the well-dressed gain structures as allowing any sounds from crystal clear, crispy crunch, fat rock rhythm or heavy metal riffs to searing lead lines.
