NY Amp Show '10 - Reinhardt Amps SHG 33 Demo

July 6, 2010
PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at the 2010 NY Amp Show where he visits the Reinhardt Amplification room. In this segment, we get to see and hear from their newest head, the SHG 33, while also learning about several other models including, the Talyn, the Sonoma and the Vintage 100.

Reinhardt's high gain SHG is now in a 33 watt model that comes loaded with two EL34 power tubes and its standard options include power scaling and a built-in effects loop.

The Vintage 100 has four EL34s, but you can also use four KT66s for their sweet tone, too. The preamp is loaded with three 12AX7s. To keep the '68 feel it features Heyboer power and output transformers that are choke reverse engineered based on the original Drakes.

The Talyn was built as a special request from Mark Knopfler who wanted an amp styled after the Trainwreck Rocket. Powered by a hand picked blend of three 12AX7 preamp tubes, four EL84 power tubes, and a GZ34 rectifier, the amp's controls are Volume, Treble, Middle, Bass, Cut, and Presence.

The Sonoma is a 100 watt head featuring four 6L6 or four EL34 power tubes and is based on the famous Bluesmaster and Overdrive amps from the legendary amp builder H.A.D. It comes standard with a 2-button switch for Boost and Channel switching. Several custom features such as Boost Level Control, and Mid Shaping to give the amp a bit wider range of tone choices.

NY Amp Show '10 - Black Cat Custom Fuzz Pedals

July 5, 2010
PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at the 2010 NY Amp Show where he visits the Black Cat Pedals room. In this segment, we get to check out three of their latest fuzz pedals--the Custom MKI Americano, the Professional MKII, and the Bass Octave.

The MKI Americano built on a similar platfrom to the famous British fuzz circuits of yore, but with all-American components.

The Black Cat Custom Professional MKII is their take on the iconic 1960s Sola Sound Tone Bender Professional MKII, made famous by Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton among others. The Black Cat MKII is wired point-to-point on double turrets, just like the MKI Americano. However, they opted for a more traditional approach, rather than repeating the Americano theme. Their component selection for the MKII reflects an old-school British flair, using a Newmarket NKT274 and two Philips OC75 transistors, and Mullard tropical fish capacitors.

The Black Cat Bass Octave Fuzz is a modern recreation of the rare and valuable Maestro Bass Brassmaster, which was used in the seventies by bass players such as John Entwhistle (The Who), Chris Squire (Yes), and Kyle Brock (Eric Johnson/Electromagnets). The Bass Octave Fuzz allows the player to blend the clean signal into the mix along with the fuzz. The result is a monstrous roar of fuzz with a thunderous low-end rumble.
