The world of vintage guitars is always in need of expert restoration work, so as to preserve the vital essence of the instrument. Such work often requires "parts," originals of which are always in very short supply, especially those parts which are prone to wearing out with age and use, such as tuning machines. When originals cannot be found, high quality replicas are an obvious alternative, though often difficult to come by. Now, two German luthiers, very active in the vintage instrument restoration realm have developed fine replicas of tuning machines produced in the 1960's, like those used on Martin 12-strings. These are 6-on-a-plate style for 12-string guitars with slotted headstocks and feature nickel plated brass plates & posts, plain or engraved plates,.236" post diameter and a post spacing of .917"(on-center), steel worm gears and small oval buttons.
