The Mattias Eklundh Freak Guitar Dual Drive Distortion Pedal was created through a collaboration of Swedish guitarist Mattias "IA" Eklundh, one of the most unique, extraordinary, and talented guitar virtuosos of the contemporary music world, and the AMT Custom Pedal Design Shop. The Freak Drive distortion pedal features the sound shaping flexibility and style design that reflect the creative passion of it's artistic namesake. The semi-parametric MF equalizer is the major distinguishing feature of this device. Using TWO mid control knobs (MID and MID FREQ) you can not only increase or decrease MF levels but also choose the band pass central frequency. This will give you a chance to control your guitar's tone with flexibly not offered on other regular effects. Each of the two foot switches is equipped with optical sensors which control the electromechanical relay switching between modes on/off by means of a microcontroller. Thus, AMT has eliminated the problem related to mechanical contacts wear-out due to frequent effects selection as in regular pedal effects. The AMT designed box features a 1.5mm stainless steel deck panel preventing tubes and controls from mechanical damage. This is truly a road worthy guitar pedal. All AMT pedals including the Mattias Eklundh distortion pedal are designed to sound equally as good through an amp or direct recorded due to built-in cabinet emulation circuitry. Perfect for live performance and in the studio. more information »

Based on high-gain amplifier designs, the Hot British is tailored to extract ultra-rich harmonics and full-on saturated tube settings without the mud or noise that is typical with other pedals. The powerful EQ settings truly allow the player to dial in to the type of tones that create everything from chunky rhythms to sizzling lead solos. Best of all, even when pushing the Tonebone Hot British beyond the limits, the natural dynamics and feel of the player still shine through. Controls include drive, level, high, low, mid contour, top end, voicing, and mid boost. (Effects) more information »

The Maxon D&S II, part of the Reissue Series, is a distortion and sustainer pedal in the tradition of one originally released in 1974. With its mild drive, relaxed sustain and high output, the D&S II sits the fence between an overdrive and a distortion pedal. This unique "split personality" makes the D&S II a perfect stompbox for players who seek a natural-feeling drive sound but who want more drive and output than an overdrive pedal generally provides. The Maxon D&S II accomplishes this task with some unique circuit refinements not typically found in distortion pedals. Like a standard distortion effect, the D&S II features a diode-clipping stage after the amplifier section of the circuit. However, rather than using the silicon diodes commonly found in today's circuits, the D&S II distortion pedal uses germanium diodes in this clipping stage. The threshold voltage for clipping is 0.1 - 0.2V with germanium and 0.7 - 0.8V with silicon, so the germanium can distort even low-level tones, thus making a smoother distortion. In addition, the germanium's rectifier characteristic is inferior to silicon (voltage drop with negative current is not as sharp as that of silicon) - this shortcoming ironically works favorably for the D&S II, creating a somewhat rounded waveform of the clipped signal that contributes to the unit's warm, natural distortion. Due to their "inferior" characteristics, germanium diodes are now a very rare component and have generally been replaced with silicon diodes in other manufacturer's circuits. Ironically, it is these shortcomings that give the D&S II its signature sound. Also unique to the D&S II is its tone control. While most other overdrives and distortions feature hi boost/hi cut tone circuits, the D&S II tone control uses a low range boost/cut circuit for added bottom end. In addition, the D&S II's tone circuit features the JRC4558 IC chip, generally regarded as sonically superior to other op amp models. Th more information »
