"VEGA FW-5 EXCEL" (1963?) $1,750.00

SKU: GS2346772
EC, well here's a very nice and interesting banjo that just puzzles us. It was sold in 2006 by another dealer as a genuine 1960's Vega banjo, although we have frankly never seen anything quite like it, so we're just not sure. Features include ~10-15/16" wood rim with ~1/4 tone hoop, 24 brackets, 19/32" rim thickness, herringbone trim on inside and outside of bottom of rim, thick mother-of-pearl rim cap with w-b trim on both sides, dual coordinator rods, old Remo plastic head, recent No Knot tailpiece. The maple neck features a natural finish, heavily carved heel in a floral pattern, white-bound ebony fretboard with pearl dot and some fancy inlays, 5 geared tuners with pearl buttons, "VEGA" inlaid in pearl in the rosewood headstock plus pearl stars in the headstock and rosewood heel cap, ~27" scale, 1-3/16" nut width, there is a brass plate on the inside of the rim that says "THE VEGA CO. EST 1889 / CUSTOM INSTRUMENT DEPT. / MODEL FW-5 EXCEL CUSTOM / NUMBER A-102641", sounds really good, with TKL HSC (SN:A-102641) (Open Back Banjos (5-string)) more information »

S.S. Stewart - American Princess, Excellent $1,000.00

SKU: GS2375544
UBB29651 We hope none of the Banjophiles out there will be offended if we say that this turn-of-the-Century mini Stewart is 'cute'. Despite its cuteness, it is every bit one of the great sounding spunover rim open back five strings that S.S. Stewart is so well known for. The Stewarts all has nicely decorated fingerboards and pegheads, and the beauty of this one truly matches its tone. It is a rare and wonderful thing. With gig bag. more information »

2006 UKIYO - Aeroplane, Brand New $850.00

SKU: GS2375597
NUC21347 The Aero Uke was originally built by the Harmony Co. to commemorate Lindbergh's 1927 transatlantic flight. This fine replica from the hands of master luthier Marc Schoenberger captures the fanciful look of the original but is greatly improved in tone, playability and workmanship. Each of Marc’ s ukes is hand crafted and the tops are “tap” tuned to give his instruments a loud an balanced voice. The Aero Uke is made with one piece mahogany body, a mahogany neck and a spruce top. The prop is hand turned from Brazilian mahogany and the propellors are turned from teak. The fingerboard and tail fin are made from rosewood. Each of these special instruments is signed and dated by the artist. Lyon & Healy - Mystic, Excellent $550.00

SKU: GS2375414
UBB28108 This is the open back spunover rim classic that Lyon & Healy sold by the hundreds, nay, thousands to parlour banjo players in the early 20th Century. They were originally outfitted with gut strings and produced the sparkling melodies of Messrs. Bach & Mozart and such. A whole lot of them found their way to the Southern Mountain region of the United States where a new possum hide head and some metal strings from the Sears catalog produced the clawhammer tunes danced to by the local inhabitants. Later years of course, along came the great folk revival where college kids from the city studied their Roscoe Holcomb, Buell Kazee and Doc Boggs until it drove their dorm-mates crazy. At the heart of it all, was many an instrument just like this Lyon & Healy Mystic. In the hands of great local players such as Tom Sauber, Dave Swarens, John Wright, Chris Cooper or Phil Boroff, it can produce those same sweet tones. In your hands, it might just become the next "big thing". With gig bag. more information »
