Many thanks for the kind words. I appreciate the constructive comments regarding biasing. The matter is, however, somewhat complicated insofar as the bias method is by an adjustable cathode resistor, not the more typical fixed bias method where a simple voltage measure can suffice. Adjustment requires opening the chassis and performing a series of measurements and calculations in order to determine and adjust the tube's static plate dissipation. This is only recommended for those with the knowledge to work inside amps safely. What we have done on request in custom builds is to provide a toggle switch to allow the selection of two preset bias points: call them warm and hot if you will. These are necessarily relative terms, however, as that which is "hot" for a 5881 or EL34 might be just right for a 6L6GC or KT66, etc... Thus our stated tendancy to stick with the long term reliability of simplicity for quality's sake.

Per the comments of 'The Beav' - nobody said anything about being a Champ clone. The only likeness of our Pure-Drive SE to the Champ is the single-ended output stage. The output transformers in the PDSE alone cost $200. None-the-less... don't like the price - pricing is arbitrary - make us an offer we can't refuse!

Yes attitude - but $2275 for a Champ clone (more or less)? There isn't more than 200 bucks of parts in that thing.

I agree with Clampon Tampo n(ouch).Attitude is a great attribute in a world filled with gready people.Wished we could have heard more of the amp.The design was simple and very versatile with many tube options .He should add bias test points with recommended bias voltages for simplicity and easy setup without having to remove the chassis.

I like this builders attitude -- he's humble and enthusiastic and seems like a guy who will continue to grow. The next Ken Fischer??????
