Tony Iommi has always used Laney amps . . .

As with most artists of any genre, tones, color palettes, styles, and mediums are subject to evolution as the growth of the artist continues along with their inspirations. Tosay Tony Iommi hasn't had the "Iommi tone" since the '70s is ludicrous to my own way perceptions (which are my own indeed). I've got two SGs equipped with his signature Gibson pickups and am more than pleased with the resulting sonic onslaught brought forth with my playing approach and favored rigs. For a "backstage" rig I'd have to say the new signature model would likely do just fine as well, kept in its intended context.

Sadly, not even Tony Iommi himself has had "Tony Iommi" tone since the mid 1970s. Neither Gibson's Iommi Signature SG, Iommi Signature Humbucker or any Laney amp of the last 35+ years even comes close, including this Backstage amp.
