Like many of you, I love the looks of the D'Angelico. I've researched them as best I could, over the internet. Unfortunately, living in the Pineywoods of Louisiana, there just aren't any that I can get my hands on; and, to be honest, I just don't want to take a chance on buying a guitar that I won't be happy with. Besides, it would be hard to beat my 1999 Epi Dot( with USA electronics) as far as fit and finish go. And, it it gets stolen or the grand kids dent it, I'm not out $1200-1500.00. If I could get a D'Angelico dealer to inspect, set up and stand behind the finish and fit, I think I would take a chance on one, though. Like I don't have enough guitars!!??(21)

When D'Angelico first came out with the Excel reissue, they said they would only make 100 of them. Even though it was laminated and built in Korea...it is a lovely instrument. I bought one because I felt it had some collector value and (because I did not want to lose it) paid almost full price. A few months later, D'Ang decided to pop them out like popcorn because "they were so popular". I will never get my money back on this one. It is a nice guitar...but knowing what I know now..I would never have paid what I paid for it..but how was I to know that D'Ang would change the plan.... Oh Well....

I have a Vestex D'angelico NYL-5 built in Tokyo by luthier Hidesito Shino that I love. It's on every album I've released in the past 10 years! roundtownsound.com

I bought an Exl1 and the build was lousy. Poor finish pitted paint job and rough frets. I know chinese built guitars keep the price down but this was a waste of £1000. Sent it back and bought an Epiphone half the the price and better finish. A real pity because I love the look and heritage of D'Angelico.
