NY Amp Show '10 - Celestion Room w/ Trainwrecks

PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at the 2010 NY Amp Show where he visits the Celestion Room.

They loaded several different cabs with their various speakers and had guitarists play through some of the most sought after amps. The amps included [left to right] Komet 19 combo featured a heritage G12H30 with the 55hz cone, Trainwreck Liverpool "Marge" was on a Bruno 2x10 with Gold G10s, prototype 4- 6V6 Bruno Cow-tipper head was on a Bruno 2x12 with Gold G12s, Bruno Underground 30 was in a Bruno 2x12 with Alnico Blues, the famous tan EL34 Dumble was on a Heritage G1265 loaded Bruno 2x12, and Trainwreck Express "Suzanne"—originally owned by George Lynch—was on a Heritage Greenback 20W G12M loaded 4x12.

NY Amp Show '10 - Vox AC15C1 Demo

PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at the 2010 NY Amp Show where he visits the Vox Amplifiers room. In this segment, we get a taste of Vox's AC15 Custom combo.

The 15 watt AC15C1 has 2-EL84/6BQ5 power tubes & 2-12AX7/ECC83 preamp tubes. The cabinet is loaded with 12" 16 ohm Celestion G12M Greenback speaker.

Equipped with a number of modern features and conveniences the new AC15 Custom offers more control and versatility with features like master volume, global reverb and tremolo. Also on the top panel are bass and trebles controls along with a single guitar input.

At look at the rear panel will reveal a pair of output jacks for use with external speaker cabinets if desired. When connecting speakers, an impedance selector switch offers 8 or 16 ohm output options. A dedicated jack for use with the supplied VF002 VOX footswitch is also provided. With this so you can turn the Reverb and Tremolo on and off.

All components have been designed, manufactured or selected so that the performance and sound of the AC15 Custom is second to none.

PG's Adam Moore is On Location in New York City, NY, where he visits Rudy's Music. In this video segment, we get the tour of Pensa Guitar's Custom Shop & Repair.

While the wood is not cut in NYC, everything else is done by hand in this small boutique shop. Here, we get to check out some Mark Knopfler models featuring quilted maple tops, mahogany bodies, hardtail or Floyd Rose bridges, and various pickup configurations. In addition, we get to see one of the ravaged guitars from the recent flood in Nashville as Keith Urban's Gibson needed some emergency TLC in order to do a performance that night in NYC.

NY Amp Show '10 -Voodoo Amps V-Rock Dual Lead Demo

PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at the 2010 NY Amp Show where he visits the Voodoo Amps room. In this segment, we get to check out their latest guitar amplifier-the V-Rock Dual Lead.

Voodoo describes the V-Rock Dual Lead as being "designed to replicate hot-rodded 80's gain tones - Effortless pinch harmonics, endless liquid like sustain coupled with deep/rich bottom end and lush/chimey clean channel makes the V-Rock a must for fans of 80's shred players."

It features EL34 power tubes and 5-12AX7 preamp tubes. This amp is either a 2-Channel amp w/ Solo Boost or a 3-Channel amp with shared EQ on the gain channels. It has instantaneous / seamless footswitching without snaps, pops, and pauses. Both channel are 100% discrete from one another and they have their own dedicated circuitry allowing for each channel to be designed & voiced to its maximum tonal potential.

NY Amp Show - Fractal Audio Axe-Fx 10.0 Firmware

PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at the 2010 NY Amp Show where he visits the Fractal Audio and Atomic Amps room. In this segment, we get to check out some of their latest gear--the Axe-Fx Firmware 10.0 software updates, MFC-101 Foot Controller, and the Atomic Reator FR Cabinets.

Audio Systems MFC-101 is an all-new MIDI foot controller. Designed for studio or stage use, the unit is housed in a high quality steel chassis (15.75" x 10" x 3.75"), and features a bright 20-character display, dual-color LEDs, plus 21 on-board switches for bank/preset selection, effect bypass, tap tempo, or any other function that can be controlled via midi. The MFC-101 supports four expression pedals and four switches via rear panel jacks, and an expansion port allows connecting a planned module to increase the onboard switch count to 43. Fractal Audio fans will enjoy a dedicated "Axe-Fx" mode, designed for seamless operation with the company's Standard or Ultra Tone/Effects processors.

The Reactor FR Wedge is available in a powered and passive configuration. The powered wedge has a 50W power section with one 12AX7 and two EL-6L6GC vacuum tubes to deliver full-rated power over a full frequency response, with high headroom and very low distortion. Both the powered and the passive versions employ a high efficiency speaker system with a ported 12-ply marine grade birch plywood cabinet, a 12" speaker, a 1" tweeter/4" horn, and a crossover network.

PG's Shawn Hammond is On Location at the 2010 NY Amp Show where he visits the Hermida Audio Technology room. In this segment, we get to see and hear two of their newest pedals--the Tiki Drive and the Blackface Drive.

The Tikie Drive was a collaboration with Alfonso Hermida and Elliot Easton of The Cars. They created Hermida's darkest-voiced overdrive pedal yet. Its controls are Volume, Gain 1, Gain 2, Tone, and Voice.

The Blackface Drive has a voicing more in-line with Hermida's previous overdrive pedals. It is designed to add a little hair and grit to a solid clean signal, but still allow chord definition and single notes to be heard. Also, its voice is based on the 60s Fender Blackface amps. Its controls are Volume, Gain, Tone, and Voice.

The TR-7 is a true stereo tremolo, rotary, and vibrato pedal. Tones range from traditional tremolo to a highly-detailed rotary cabinet. Vibrato effects finish the mix for the world's most advanced pedal of its kind. The Hi-Plains Drifter is a single-channel, 150-watt amplifier with spring reverb designed for the bluesy rock players of the SRV and Eric Johnson school. Bludotone's Brandon Montgomery describes the amp's tone as "going from a sparkly, spankin' clean to a medium roar overdrive, but still retaining the guitar's original tone. Even though the amp is 150 watts, it still produces those overdriven tones at a reasonable volume... it doesn't have to be loud, but it sure likes to be loud."

Trev Wilkinson, the brains behind the UK-based Fret King and Vintage brands, debuted a brand-new auto-tuning bridge that can store five user-programmable tuning presets, in addition to the pre-loaded standard E, open G, DADGAD, and open D. It's very easy to use, and tunes very quickly and accurately. The bridge comes installed on the Fret King Super-Matic, but will also be available for all manufacturers to install in their models.

Summer NAMM '10 - Laney Amps Cub Head Demo

PG's Rebecca Dirks is On Location in Nashville, TN, for the 2010 Summer NAMM Show where she visits the Laney Amps booth. In this segment, we get to check out the low-powered Cub Head.

The all new CUB HEAD gives players access to British valve tone. The retro styled Cub Head features a top mounted control panel consisting of the following; Gain, Treble, Middle, Bass, Volume, Tone and Reverb.

The Cub Head houses 3-ECC83s in its preamp and 2-EL84s in the power amp section. The Cub Head has two input options, one giving you 15W RMS of valve tone, the other giving you a valve sound, but cutting the output down to .75 of a watt.

The rear panel of the Cub Head houses two speaker out sockets in 8 & 16 Ohm options, a footswitch socket for switching the reverb and an effects loop consisting of a Send/Line out socket and a return socket. The Cub Head can be paired with any Laney cabinet.
