Rig Rundown - Michael Angelo Batio

A A
RR-MAB

Premier Guitar's Jason Shadrick is on location in Dubuque, Iowa, where he catches up with shredder Michael Angelo Batio who talks to us about his various signature models from Dean Guitars, including a double-guitar signature, and his 4-amp setup (Marshall and Dime), and his sparse pedalboard with overdrive, delay, and wah.

Guitars
For his "Hands Without Shadows" show, Batio relies on a batch of his signature Dean guitars. For the Van Halen segment, he uses a striped MAB3 model and for the Hendrix portion, a left-handed S-style Dean (which Batio actually plays left handed).

His most well-known guitar is his custom doubleneck Dean. It weighs in at 15 pounds and has dual outputs (one to each of his Marshall amps).

Amps
A pair of Marshall JCM2000 Dual Super Lead heads serves as Batio's main amps. The Dime amps are in use when he brings out his quad-necked guitar and otherwise are used as backups. Each Marshall head runs into a Marshall 4x12 cabinet loaded with Celestion Greenback speakers.

Effects
On his pedalboard, Batio keeps things simple with a Morley Maverick wah, T-Rex Fuel Tank, Line 6 Wireless, a pair of Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamers (the second one is only used with the double neck guitar), a pair of T-Rex Replica delays (which sit on top of the amp and are routed through the effects loop), and a Boss TU-2 tuner.
