Arens specializes in finding vintage console radios from the 1940s / 1950s and converting them into killer-sounding speaker cabinets for guitar amps.
Arens’ company has launched two new models: the Studio Deluxe features a pristine, museum-grade radio cabinet adorned with a Brynn Co. brass badge and is priced at $999. The Pro model features a naturally reliced vintage radio cabinet and is priced at $499. Both models feature tone-matched vintage speakers for unsurpassed tone.
“I’ve always loved the look and the feel of those radios,” Arens admits, “and the craftsmanship and the materials are amazing." Brynn Co. cabinets provide a totally distinctive backline in any live setting. “They’re so handsome,” Arens laughs, “your wife will let you keep it in the living room."
Each Brynn Co. speaker enclosure is unique -- custom-assembled with painstaking care, and outfitted with speakers and components that are selected to most closely match the owner’s favorite or current amp.
For example, if you’re playing a 1950 Fender Bassman, Arens will spend hours ear-testing various components to create the best sonic pairing. While the cabinets outside appearance harkens back to the 1940s, the inside contains high-quality, reliable components.
Arens works closely with his customers to find the perfect selection for their desired sound. He usually installs vintage speakers for his cabs (typically 1950’s Jensens) but he’ll gladly outfit the cabinets with new speakers if the customer prefers.
Arens’ collaborative, customer-oriented approach – along with the antique look of his cabs – has quickly earned Brynn Co. Amps a fervent following. The company’s origins began when Arens’s band – Minneapolis faves The Oddfathers – were recording their debut EPs Part I and Part II . During recording sessions, Arens used a customized vintage radio console as a guitar amp speaker. Jack Douglas, the producer on the recording sessions, loved the look and the sound of the speaker so much that he sent a photo of it to Joe Perry of Aerosmith.
Joe Perry immediately ordered one and Arens realized that his one-of-a-kind enclosures could attract a serious following. Since then, Brynn Co. has built speaker cabinets for a diverse group of players, including bassist David Hull (Buddy Miles, Joe Cocker, Clay Howard, Krys Barrato and other local Minneapolis musicians.
Now, Brynn Co. has officially launched their two new lines of speaker enclosures and is ready to build custom cabs for a broader range of guitarists.
The Studio Deluxe is priced at $999 and the Pro model is priced at $499.
