Brad Barr is primarily known as a guitarist, a singer, and the main songwriter for Montreal’s The Barr Brothers. Born in Providence, RI, USA, he and his brother Andrew moved to Montreal, Quebec in 2005 after touring for a decade with their avant-rock trio The Slip. Brad has released four Juno nominated albums with the Barr Brothers, two instrumental solo guitar albums, and has collaborated with a multitude of artists including Jim James, Martha Wainwright, Patrick Watson, Joe Russo, Marco Benevento, Dave Binney and more. His visceral style is hard to pin down. He draws as much from jazz, noise, and gospel and he does from animal sounds, moving between electric and acoustic instruments and balancing the experimental with the familiar. His live solo shows have earned him a reputation as a kind of transcendental musical shaman in sneakers. His main objectives are to nurture compassion, spread joy, and explore freedom.
