LA Amp Show '09: Henman-Bevilacqua Guitars S1 Demo

PG's Joe Coffey is On Location in Van Nuys, CA, for the 2009 LA Amp Show where he swings by the Henman-Bevilacqua Guitars booth. In this video segment we get our first peek at their S1 model. The S1 is a solidbody guitar that features a Honduran mahogany body with a Northwestern flame maple top. Also, it has a three-piece sapelle neck and headstock with an ebony fingerboard. It comes loaded with WCR pickups (Crossroads-neck; Godwood-bridge) and Sperzel locking tuners.

Warm Audio Throne of Tone Review

Though the business of cloning pedals is competitive (and endless fodder for frothing Reddit denizens), I appreciate when a pedal company offers a useful twist on an established formula. Warm Audio accomplishes this with the Throne of Tone. It is clearly inspired by the Analog Man King of Tone. But it is also very obviously a nod to the Marshall Bluesbreaker, the pedal that Mike Piera used as a departure point for his KOT design. The Throne of Tone, though, might mark the point at which the snake bites its tail. It cross-pollinates the circuits in a dual overdrive that opens up many, many tone-coloring avenues and options.

Like most of you, I would guess, I’ve never had the pleasure of playing a Dumble amp. I have a fair idea of what they are supposed to sound like thanks to Stevie Ray Vaughan and, presumably, David Lindley and Henry Kaiser (I’m never sure what amp I’m hearing on records from those two mad geniuses). But I definitely don’t know how a Dumble feels, or how it sounds up close in a room. So, I have to take NUX’s word for it that they deliver on the Steel Singer—an overdrive inspired by the Dumble Steel String Singer.
