Ronnie Wood and the Ronnie Wood Band return to the blues with the second installment of his live album trilogy - Mr. Luck - A Tribute to Jimmy Reed: Live at the Royal Albert Hall.
Mr. Luck - A Tribute to Jimmy Reed: Live at the Royal Albert Hall will be released by BMG on September 3, 2021. The 18-track album features The Ronnie Wood Band including Mick Taylor with incredible special guests, Bobby Womack, Mick Hucknall, Paul Weller, and pays tribute to one of Ronnie's musical heroes and major influences, the Mississippi electric blues pioneer Jimmy Reed.
The album is recorded live on a memorable night at the Royal Albert Hall on November 1, 2013. It features stunning tracks including "Good Lover" and "Ghost of A Man." With unique album artwork specially created by Ronnie, Mr. Luck will be available digitally, on CD, as a vinyl release, and as a beautiful limited-edition dual-tone smoky blue vinyl.
When self-taught guitarist Eddie Taylor imparted his skills onto his friend Jimmy Reed, he surely couldn't have imagined the effect this was to have on the Chicago blues scene. Backing up such luminaries as John Lee Hooker, he is best remembered for his work with his former student.

Sweet coincidence, then, that in 1974 another Taylor, Mick, would make way for Ronnie Wood in the Rolling Stones, paving the way for these two friends and celebrated guitarists to work on projects ever since. The culmination of this to date is Taylor's place in The Ronnie Wood Band at the Royal Albert Hall for 2013's Blues fest, where they played the now-legendary set that would come to birth to this recording.

This album marks the second iteration in a trilogy of special and personal albums by Wood and the band, celebrating Ronnie's musical heroes. The first album, Mad Lad explored the work of Chuck Berry as an emotional commemoration after Berry's passing just over two years ago. Ronnie toured with Berry and was a lifelong fan.

The roots guitar hero stopped at Nashville’s Guitar Center last week to show ’n’ tell his favorite Gibson guitars—and more.
NASHVILLE, TN—Music City fans and players got an opportunity to hear and see roots guitar hero Marcus King up close last Thursday, when he played an in-store performance in the acoustic room of Nashville’s Guitar Center. The occasion, “An Evening with Marcus King & His Gibson Guitars,” also included a Q&A and autograph session.
King plays his song “Hero,” on his 1961 Gibson Les Paul SG.
After performing his song “Hero” on his vintage SG, King told the SRO crowd that both his guitar playing and singing were born out of ways to overcome shyness and interact with the world. “I was too bashful to say anything. I didn't have much interest in speaking to others. I just like hanging out with my dog. I don't know if I'm too dissimilar from that now, but the guitar kind of spoke where I couldn't. So when I started singing, it was kind of the same emotion. I'd rather sing than speak. With the best abilities, you can just be a vessel allow something extraordinary to flow through you. Not saying anything I do is extraordinary per se, but I just have a real respect and reverence for music, for just being able to create and get your emotions out that way instead of harboring them.”
King’s primary instrument is his grandfather’s ES-345, named Big Red, which served as a model for the Gibson Marcus King Signature ES- 345 Custom, which was unveiled in early 2021.
Recalling his early years, King attested, “Gibson was always the go-to. It was the Cadillac of guitars in my household. My grandfather played Big Red, which was his ES-345 that I have now. And my dad played an SG. My uncle played a Les Paul Deluxe, and a Marauder.” Over the course of the session, King performed with an SG, a Les Paul Junior, a Hummingbird acoustic, and his cherished family heirloom, the “Big Red” ES-345, which was refurbished by the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville.
King’s pedalboard for the in-store was a variation on his latest Rig Rundown setup, including a Dunlop Cry Baby wah, an MXR Booster, an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer, a Tru-Fi Two Face fuzz, MXR Micro Chorus, Dunlop Rotovibe chorus/vibrato, MXR Phase 100, Tru-Fi Ultra Tremolo, Dunlop Echoplex Delay, MXR reverb, and a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 3 plus.
Made in the U.S. with high-strength steel and a silicone cradle, it safely holds up to 25 pounds.

A: Neil Young. I think he’s an incredible human archivist who knows exactly how to distill the highs and lows of being an alive person better than almost anyone. Playing his songs is about as cathartic as it gets. His straight-down-the-barrel soloing is a huge inspiration, too.

Obsession: My current obsession is a Karina cover of Neil Sedaka’s “Oh! Carol.” Originally written from the male “Don’t leave me” perspective, the Spanish translation very sneakily urges Carol not to bend to the man’s will and to chase her own happiness without looking back—badass.

Obsession: My latest music-related obsession is Maryanne Amacher and otoacoustic emissions. Amacher’s pioneering work with sound and perception, particularly exploring otoacoustic emissions, fascinates me. Her innovative approach to sonic art challenges conventional boundaries, inspiring me to delve deeper into the intersection of science, sound, and human perception in music.

A: If you’re gonna riff, riff with me! At the risk of sounding boring or rudimentary, I probably know the most songs by the Misfits. I discovered them as I was learning guitar, and while not complicated or hard, those barre chords set me up with a foundation to build from. More importantly, learning those songs made guitar an interesting and fun hobby for me. I hated lessons at first because I was forced to learn and play music I had no desire to listen to, let alone play. (Sorry, Elvis!) Besides, guitar is supposed to be fun, right? Long live the Misfits!

Obsession: Introducing my son to a vast world of good music. Last thing I’d ever want for him is the embarrassment of saying something like, “Dave Matthews is awesome!” in a public setting, for lack of knowing better.
The first step to form the blueprint is to find the 5 CAGED shapes in the right key, which for our example will be the key of C. These shapes will serve as the foundation to form the scale.
Next, we will plug in the notes of C major pentatonic (C–D-E-G-A) into each of the CAGED shapes. Finally, we add the b3 (Eb) to finish off the major blues scale.
These three steps will allow you to easily form a blueprint of the blues scale across the fretboard—in any key.
