Fender Custom Shop's SRV Lenny

Fender Custom Shop's SRV Lenny

Decemeber Release for Limited Edition Strats

Scottsdale, AZ (October 9, 2007) – Fender Custom Shop has announced the latest guitar in its Tribute Series, the Stevie Ray Vaughan “Lenny” Stratocaster. The guitar will be produced in a limited quantity of 185 and will be sold for $17,000 exclusively through Guitar Center.

Lenny was Vaughan’s go-to guitar when he needed a bright and powerful tone with razor-sharp clarity. The emotive responsiveness it is known for can be heard on two songs he never played on any other guitar: “Lenny” and “Riviera Paradise,” jazzy instrumentals that showcased Vaughan''s soft touch and scorching articulation. The guitar itself was a gift for Vaughan from his wife, Lenora “Lenny” Vaughan. She and their friends pitched in to purchase it from a pawn shop where Stevie had seen it and fell in love with it. It was a ’65 Strat with original pickups and had been refinished. He later replaced the neck.

Vaughan had many guitars but only Lenny and Number One, his other famous Strat, went with him everywhere he went.

The Fender Custom Shop Lenny faithfully reproduces every element that made the original unique. The body is refinished from a 3-tone sunburst to a darker shade. The maple neck is customized with the same specs as the replacement one Vaughan received as a gift from Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. The neck plate autograph etching from Vaughan is reproduced, as is an autograph from Mickey Mantle. The body is battered the same way and it even has the same SRV stickers.

The guitars go on sale at 1pm EST, December 12th and can be purchased “In-Store” at over 200 Guitar Centers nationwide or by phone.
