Milwaukee, WI (December 9, 2009) – Manchester-born Matt Schofield is making ripples on both sides of the Atlantic and far beyond for his incredible guitar skills. Hal Leonard Corporation, the world’s largest music print publisher, has signed a deal to create an instructional guitar DVD featuring Schofield for release this coming summer.
A confluence of solid blues, jazz, funk and rock, Schofield’s playing conjures up his various influences – the three Kings, Albert Collins, Hendrix, SRV, Robben Ford, The Meters – while sounding entirely fresh and original. His third studio recording, Heads, Tails & Aces, is garnering raves. The L.A. Daily News calls Schofield “the best blues guitarist from any country in decades,” and Vintage Guitar gushes that “his feel for the music is incredible.”
Hal Leonard VP of Pop & Standard Publications Jeff Schroedl shares the sentiment. “I was listening to Sirius and a track of Matt’s came on. I literally had to pull my car over and devote my full attention to listening to him play. He’s far and away the most exciting guitarist to come around in the last ten to 15 years.”
So blown away was Schroedl that his first call upon reaching the office was to suss out representation for Schofield. Soon, a deal was struck for an instructional guitar DVD featuring Schofield teaching his unique style and techniques. Filming will soon be underway.
“When I started to teach myself the guitar, the first book I had was the Hal Leonard Guitar Method,” comments Schofield, who began playing at age 11. “It’s amazing how life has come full circle. I was determined even at a young age to be a guitarist, but never conceived of being in a position where other guitarists would want to learn from me. It’s a great honor to be working with Hal Leonard.”
The Matt Schofield Guitar Instructional DVD from Hal Leonard (00320938 / $29.99) is due off press in time for Summer NAMM.
