GALLERY: Show Us Your Gear - Unique Instruments

Oddball, one-off, custom, and handmade guitars, amps, and effects

"Brigham built these two amps from vintage amps. The Angry Fat Kid (left) is built from a vintage tube-powered Plectron FM Receiver from 1964 that was used in fire departments. It has vintage transformers, NOS 6AQ5 and 12AX7 tubes, and the original 1 meg pot. The cabinet is furniture-grade cedar. The TigerTone (right) is a Silvertone 1301 circuit built into a vintage GE record player amp. The speaker, tubes, and transformers are all from the original amp."

Dimensional, thick variations on the silicon Fuzz Face voice. Surprisingly responsive to dynamics at most tube amp’s natural clean/dirty divide. Bass control lends range.

Thins out considerably at lower amp volumes.

The McGregor Classic Fuzz, however, offers ample reminders about the many ways silicon Fuzz Faces can be beastly, sensitive, and sound supreme.
