When an injury sidelined his 6-stringing 20 years ago, he committed to violin superstardom. Now, O'Connor returns to his 1945 Martin D-28 for the rapturous, virtuosic Markology II.

In 1997, Mark O'Connor faced every guitarist's worst fear. He was teaching at his O'Connor Method String Camp that summer when he developed a debilitating case of bursitis in his right elbow. "Doctor's advice was that I limit or discontinue some of the activity that caused the bursitis, as the condition wasn't going to disappear entirely," O'Connor explains. As a multi-instrumentalist with a high-level violin career, he had a choice to make. "I sacrificed the guitar and mandolin to preserve my violin playing. I was very sad to see it go, but I needed to preserve my ability to play the violin, because it was the thrust of my career."

Nashville, TN (April 9, 2019) -- Guitar Mash is bringing its signature ā€œUrban Campfireā€ back to Music City the afternoon of May 11th with some of Nashvilleā€™s best guitarists and singer-songwriters sharing the songs that shaped them. An audience of hundreds of guitarists and other acoustic string players -- together with music lovers and fans -- are invited to sing and play along with Buddy Miller, Nicole Atkins, Gretchen Peters, and Amythyst Kiah. Guitar Mash will announce an additional special guest closer to the event date.

Following his participation in Guitar Mashā€™s flagship event in New York City in 2015, Grammy Award-winning dobro player Jerry Douglas and Guitar Mash Artistic Director Mark Stewart (Paul Simon, Bang on a Can) promised to bring this participatory event to Jerryā€™s hometown. In 2018, the first annual Nashville Urban Campfire attracted a full house of players and music lovers. Featured singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier called Guitar Mash a ā€œhappiness machine.ā€

Jerry Douglas is a busy guy, having recorded more than 1,600 albums with artists as diverse as Phish, Garth Brooks, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, Mumford & Sons, Eric Clapton, James Taylor and a ton of others. When not recording, Douglas is touring with Alison Krauss or any of his own bands, including The Earls of Leicester. Premier Guitar was lucky enough to catch up with Douglas to talk gear at his studio in Nashville, where he took the PG team through his recording and touring rig.
