The Delta Blues Hosts Benefit Show for Willie Brown's Headstone

Sean Chambers, Eddie Wright, Backwater Blues Band, and other musicians will put on a show in honor of Willie Brown.

Tampa, FL (June 1, 2010) -- The Delta Blues, or tdblues.com, will host a benefit show to raise money for a headstone for Willie Brown's grave. The show will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 at Rick's On The River in Tampa.

Currently, the blues guitarist is buried in Tunica County, Mississippi, in an unmarked grave.

"I've been a long time blues fan, and I'm big on research," said Jason Rewald, administrator of tdblues.com. "I knew that Willie Brown did not have a headstone, and I figured it was a long time overdue."

The headstone production and placement costs a total of $2100. The show is free, but there will be raffles and auctions to raise money. There will also be a donation bucket at the event.

Rewald said that it all started as a link to a donations page on the website. He realized that asking for money online was not the best way to raise money, so he decided to put on a show.

"I live out in the Tampa area, and I already had a venue since I did their website," Rewald said.

He brought in the talent for the show through connections and persistent phone calls.

"I'm actually friends with the Backwater Blues Band, so they were in for it," Rewald said. "I called around and eventually got in touch with Sean Chambers' agent."

Donations can also be made on the show's donations page.

The tdblues.com website also has more information on blues news, history, and research.

"The goal of the website in general is to bring blues news and information to the masses for free," Rewald said.
