"As Gibson and Epiphone competed throughout the 1930s, each produced increasingly large and extravagant archtops. This DeLuxe, as well as the top-of-the-line Emperor, were a reaction to Gibson's Super 400. The DeLuxe featured a 17 3/8"" body (an inch larger than its debut specs), cloud inlay, tree-of-life headstock inlay, a 5-piece neck constructed from highly figured maple, figured-maple body, and a Frequensator tailpiece. "
